The Frosh wound up with a 14 - 6 season. Under coach Joe Lawecki ' s direction, the Panthers claimed second place in the City Tourney. To add to their prestige, the Freshmen defeated Riley, Adams and St. Joe twice apiece. The Panthers at one time boasted a seven-game winning streak and a five-game streak. Tom Forray and Al Carothers paced the club in scoring. Forray exhibited a fine set shot, while Carothers relied mostly on his speed. W. H. S. 37 Adams 41 W. H. S. 15 Laporte 34 44 Elk. Wrestling Top row K. Meulman, R. Leichman, J. Garcia, D. Plonka, B. Schultz Middle E. Comer, D. Dabros, E. Easton, B. Klemczewski, J. Butler, R. Kraft Front G. Tafelski, D . Ferency, J. Radtke, L. Mahoney, R. Vargo, B. Zellers, D. Paczkowski 1959 marked the second season of the new and exciting sport of wrestling. The Panthers ended the mat season with a record of 3 wins, 6 losses and 1 tie. Senior Ron Vargo and Jun- ior Dave Ferency completed their schedule with only one defeat marring their dual compe- tition record. Washington Matmen started things against Washington Clay. The Panthers coasted to an easy victory, 43-15 with the aid of 8 Panther pins. Against a very experienced outfit the Riley Wildcat ' s Washington found the going to be rough. The Panthers outman- ned, but not outfought, went down to defeat neighbors, Mishawaks. The W. H..S. men had little trouble in capturing this dual meet, as they doubled the score on the Cavemen, 32-26. Probably the best team effort came against Penn Twp. Washington displayed inspired team work, ringing up a 29-21 win. Bob Klemczewski and Jerry Butler choked off a desperate Penn. rally to notch the victory for the Panthers. In the meet between Howe Military and Washington, the Cadets put on a terrific finish to squeeze by our Panthers 28-25. 27
