Class History ln fhe fall of I949, Washingfon High School opened ifs green curfains fo a four-acf play wifh a group of ffmid freshmen as Ihe casf. We experienced our firsf high school gafhering lafe in fhe fall af fhe affer-school ge+-acquainfed parfy. When spring came, six freshmen parficipafed in fhe musical, The Mikado . They were Ca- mille Skubiszewski, Maureen Arnold, Shirley Gwynn, Marline Fuessel, Virginia Kusz, and Danny Van Lake. As fhe end of fhe year arrived wifh Class Day, Paf Abraham was given fhe D. A. R. Cifizenship award. For our second acf we chose Pai Abraham as our presidenf. ln fhe early winfer we advanced fo fhe adul+ sfage and our affer- school parfies now became nighf dances. Paf Theodoroff broughf honor fo our sophomore class when she parficipafed in a radio pro- gram panel Soufh Bend Junior Town Meefing of fhe Air . Maureen Arnold was fhe B squad cheerleader. This was fhe year fhaf 'ihe yellow buses sfarfed appearing around Washingfon. In fhem came our new classmafes from fhe counfry and from Woodrow Wilson. Now an infermission and fhe fhird acf will begin. Our junior year and we are really ge'Hing up fhere. The officers for fhaf year were Dale Fozo, presidenfg Virginia Kusz, vice-presi- denf: Gerald Sfajkowski, secrefaryg Paf Wells, freasurerg and Rene Van Parys, class hisforian. Wi-H1 fhe junior year came a surge of aci- ing. There were sixfeen ouf of our class who fook parf in fhe Rose of Algeria , Ralph Wierzbinski, Mary Lewis, and Richard Deguch, having leads. Wifh 'rhe junior year came 'fhe junior play, Almosf Eighfeen . The leads were faken by Nancy Paczkowski, Georgianna Klosinski, Richard Schulfz, Jim Pasman, Alex Benko, and Leonard Kanczuzewski. Then came fhaf evenfful nighl' in May and our firsf Prom. This was fhe firsf combined Junior-Senior Prom af Washingfon. Among fhose chosen on fhe courf from our class were Joan Lach, Nancy Paczkowski, and Barbara Tobolski. A+ fhe close of fhe year, Paf Wells was chosen fo be Sfudenf Council Presidenf for our Senior year. Drawing 'l'he curfain on our childhood, we opened for fhe lasf acf, our immorfal senior year. This was our year of accomplishmenf, and as our leaders in sporfs, we chose Dale Fozo, and Maff Griffin as co-capfains in foofball: George Kovafch as capfain of fhe baskef- bail feamg Tom Burzynski as capfain of fhe swimming ieam, and Alex Benko capfain of fhe baseball feam. Leading various clubs were George Heynessens as presidenf of fhe Engineers Club: Carl Lipinski, Hi-Y, Gladys Badowski, Panda Ciubg Dan Dolniak, Band: Joan Lekarczyk, Ushers' Club: and Gab Anderf, chief operafor for fhe Screen Club. Represenfing Washing- fon as Junior Rofarians and Kiwanis men were Tom Burzynski, Alex Benko, Bob Lechfanski, Leonard Jurgonski, Ralph Wierzbinski, and George Kovafch. Paf Abraham was given fhe honor of being fhe Panfhers' queen for fhe Washingfon-Riley roundup. Her courf included .loan Jackowiak, Virginia Arelf, Margie Hadary, Rifa Wroblewski, Shirley Meszaros, Nancy Paczkowski, and Georgianna Klosinski. Taking leads in our senior producfion Clemenfine were Joan Lach, Nancy Paczkowski, Paf Theodoroff, Ray Branchfk, Richa'd Schulfz, and Bob Lechfanski. There were many seniors in fhe Glee Club and band producfion, An Evening of Music . Elizabefh Forray and Shirley Rzeszewski were chosen fo head fhe producfion of our yearbook Memory Lane . Our Hafchef Ediior for fha year was Virginia Kusz. This year our school paper 'iook a sfep forward and became a daily paper under fhe leadership of Shirley Rzeszewski and Virginia Kusz. Our officers for fhe year had been George Kovafch, presidenf firsf semesferg Alex Benko, presidenf second semesferg Gerald Sfaj- kowski, secrefaryg Dale Fozo, freasurerg Rene Van Parys, hisforian. Lasf was fhe announcemenf of our scholasfic leaders. Valedic- forian was Paf Theodoroff. Salufaforian was Elizabefh Forray. So wifh fhis final acf, we have closed fhe curfains on a drama never again fo be relived by fhe class of l953. We cannof fake an encore as Fafher Time as shown us fhaf we cannof go back, buf musf keep on, always bringing honor fo our names. So we promise 'lo you, underclassmen and faculfy, fhaf fhe spirii' of Washingfon High School will remain in our hearfs in all fhe years of our fufure. We shall sfrive fo proceed Ever Onward.
