They are under the competent leadership of Mr. E. Asbury. The members are from the tenth to twelfth gradesg but, as in the orchestra, junior high school musicians of high quality re- hearse with the band three days a week during the noon hour. The organization has per- formed on various occasions-fcommunity affairs, a spring concert, and numerous sports events at school, The band fulfills its original purpose, which is to bring together the best band players in an organization which will delight its audiences with musical composi- tions of superior quality. This organization worked toward the purchase of new band uniforms. These were worn this spring, and the students of Washington High School eagerly looked forward to viewing their band arrayed in suitable outfits. The band music is considered a very popular entertainment. Everyone is usually thrilled at the pep and rhythm of a Sousa marchy and the most classical music, as it is performed by the concert band, is greatly appreciated too. ln this, as in all its musical organizations, Washington High School takes great pride.

Only those boys and girls displaying outstanding mus- ical talents are chosen. This year the orchestra is composed of fifty-five members. Because of rehearsals during the lunch period two days a week, several junior high school stu- dents of unusual ability were able to augment this organization. The conductor, Mr. Edward C. Tritt, selects music of a high standard for the orchestra to play because he realizes that in this way its members gain a lasting appreciation of fine music. One of the musical masterpieces which was chosen for the orchestra was Shubert's Unfinished Symphony. The orchestra accompanied soloists in Mozart's D-Minor Concerto for Piano and in Mendelssohn's E-Minor Concerto for Violin . Audiences also enjoyed the many selections by American composers. The orchestra, under the competent direction of Mr. Tritt, has appeared for assembly programs, the Christmas vesper service, evening concerts, community affairs, and also per- formed on a radio program. This is the oldest musical organization of Washington High School, and throughout its many performances during the past years, it has maintained an excellent standard. We are proud of the fact that this year's concert orchestra is consid- ered one of the best that our school has ever had. This was clue to the hard work and en- thusiastic co-operation of its conductor and members.
