O THE INDUSTRIAL-VOCATIONAL DEPARTMENT embraces three sepa- rate divisions: pre-vocational work, in which the pupil makes a survey ot the different tieldsj vocational work, which gives the pupil practical training and experienceg and finally, avccational work, which gives those who are interested an opporunity to express themselves. 9 GOOD HEALTH is an important factor in a happy and successful lite. Proper exercise is vital in the quest for health. Realizing this tact, the physical education department offers a program whereby every student can get the benefit of athletic training. The present day high school is not in accord with modern trends if it does not offer different types of courses to accommodate the possibilities and limitations of its student body. In Washington High School there are four materially different courses: college, commercial, general, and vocational. ln'the college preparatory course, a student is fitted primarily for college, the commercial course develops one for business, and the general and the vocational train ,the student for the industrial world. Each course performs its individual task in broadening the mental and physical scope- of' the student who must eventually make use of it in a practical way.' All these help to impart a sense of idealism with the sense of realism, thus giving the pupil an under- standing of the life which he will face eventually in the world.
