+1118-i . mst! ,X K,r.,.Jk..r M ,. . , 'i A New Slant on Washburn We present to you your 1958 WAHIAN. In it we, the WAHIAN staff, have tried to picture a new slant on your school: its organizations, activities, sports, faculty, social life, and most of all, its students. Our halls and classrooms have been transformed by the florescent lights so long anticipated. The familiar lunchroom stools were finally replaced by chairs, and the installation of an improved lighting system in the auditorium made more effective stage presentations possible. Mr. Anderson, our new principal, has done a fine job with the support of faculty and students in his first year. He encouraged Washburn students to live up to the scholastic and athletic achievements attained in previous years. This year, in addition to the already numerous Washburn organizations, new clubs were formed to give students a more varied extracurricular program. Enthusiasm and interest ran high, which made each club a success. 1958 has been another outstanding year in athletics. Cheering at the games spurred our teams on to championships in football, swimming, and wrestling. For Seniors, memories of our good times at Washburn will not be forgotten. The fun and the heartbreaks, the silly and the serious, will always remain. The juniors and sophomores have one or two years ahead of them to experience success here. Good luck to them! We have recorded on these pages a record of Washburn in 1958. For us, the Seniors, it will be one of the best years of our lives. Studying and Striving to Gain Success 3
