Merrilynne Hanson and Paul Szabo increased the class to thirty-six members. Arlene Guski was nominated as the senior choice for Homecoming Queen. To the delight of all, she won the honor and chose Gene Taylor as her escort. The class was awarded the honorable $1 prize for a third place float entry. Many seniors worked hard to acquire apples for the caramel apple sales at the football games. These were very profitable as were the hot dog, coffee, and candy sales. Parties started popping soon afterward and the seniors were one big happy family. Written invitations were sent to all seniors for a progressive dinner party held on New Year's Eve. It was a blast! A donkey basketball game sponsored on February 5, was a huge success. The $225 profit went toward our class trip. Minneapolis was the destination. The seniors left on April 14 at four in the morn- ing and went on a tour of the Federal Reserve Bank soon after arrival. That evening was spent at the Ice Follies with dinner in the Starlight Room of The Capp-Towers. The second day was most wisely used free time--shopping centers, art museums, etc. We returned late Friday night, weary and worn, but not too tired for action. Many class meetings were held to discuss plans for graduation which was scheduled for June 3. Maryann Welton and Mark Larson were chosen as class favorites. Blue and silver were the class colors. The senior boys came up with many promising ideas for the class motto—promising, but not appropriate. We Will Climb the Stairs of Tomorrow with Ashes of Yesterday”, was finally settled on. The last couple of months were busy for everyone. The seniors realized that high school was soon to be a memory. IB
