Senior History In August, 1958, apprehensive Freshmen entered the Washburn High School. We were told that Mr. Albers and Miss Haase would be our advisors. They helped us to understand the school traditions and told us what would be expected of us as high school students. It wasn't until after the Sophomores initiated us that we felt really at ease in our new surroundings. Before we knew it, final exams were over and we were mighty Sophomores. We enjoyed initiating the new Freshmen. We held two different projects that year to raise money for our treasury. At Christmas we sold Christmas cards - that summer we held three car washes. Our busy junior year began with Homecoming. This was the third year in which our float re- ceived top honors in the parade. Bill Bratley and Bruce Johnson represented our class in the state forensic contest. Then came the most important projects of the year - prom and banquet. The Junior-Senior Banquet was built around the theme A Touch of Holland. At the prom we danced to the music of Ernie Carroll's orchestra among decorations depicting Shangri-La. This year, Seniors going to Madison for the state forensic contest were Louise Faulkner, Sharon LaGrew, and Bruce Johnson. Peter Sytsma was selected for the All-Conference basketball team. So now, as we graduate, we bring to a close four happy years at Washburn High School. Enter to Learn — Go Forth to Serve '
