This party might be called the keynote to the activities of the class. As rapidly as the students and faculty skated that night, so have events shaped themselves. The few drawbacks might be compared to their falls. When the Dramatic Club put on New Fires, juniors made up the greater part of the cast. The class play, Guess Again, was presented on April 24. This along with the skating party and a movie on November 17, was given for the purpose of making money for the prom, held on May 26. Following the old Southern plantation style, it proved to be one of the most original given. ROGRESS N

CLASSES The characteristic features of the old-time schools-the birch rod, the predominance of discipline over in- struction, the meagre curriculum, the rough and uncomfortable school furnishings and buildings-were also typical of Wl1eeling's earliest schools. The first free public schools in Wlieeliiig were begun in 1847. From the five original schools the educational system has developed until there are now thirty-three grade schools, six junior high schools, five high schools, and one trade school to serve the city and county public school students. 19 IOO YEAR AN bg 5 GD VD I.l.I 465 I 4 '29 fa

For instance, a record of the number of calories eaten was kept by each biology student. In home economics the study of preparing dinners from soup to nuts was taken up. Interior decoration was also made a project in this class. .. Heller, Pausic, Pitzer, Eagen, I 5' Z ID VD l.I.I D! D! 4 71 loo YEAR
