.Bef 4. iii? ala! The Warren Chapter of the National Honor Society received its charter in March, 1940. Each year since then members from the junior class have been selected on the basis of the four points-scholarship, character, leadership, and service. This year the senior members are Henry Hanson, presidentg Jack Gilbertson, vice-president, Dorothy Taus, secretary, Margaret Strunk, Dennis Rloley, Jean Morkassel, and Lois Nelson. These members have chosen the following from the junior class to become full-fledged members on entering their senior year: Joyce Larson, Elaine Johnson, Olive Elliason, Evelyn Elliason, Aldon Larson, and Robert Hol- bnook. Advisers to the National Honor Society are Miss Enid Martell, Miss Dorothea Sitz, Mr. Weltzin, Mr. Solyst and Mr. Johnson. Write-ups covered athletics, dramatics, music, library, organizations, faculty, programs, contests, and miscellaneous items. Four staff members, Jean Morkassel, Margaret Strunk, Dorothy Taus and Lyla Urtes, and Miss Enid Martell, adviser, attended the North- ern Interscholastic Press Association convention at the University of North Dakota on October 30, 31, and November 1, Where the Chronicle received a B rating. First row Rae Engen Margaret Strunk Betty Lou Ranum Elvira Carlson Lois Nelson Mary Ann Andeen Jean Morkassel Second row Edith Eide Eva Mae Cormican Henry Hanson Earl Taus Joyce Larson Lyla Urtes Declamation Declamation claimed the interest of nineteen students tlus year Fifteen of these declalmers took part 1n the local contest which was held on March 19 Eight students Margaret Strunk Lyla Urtes Elvira Carlson, Jane Hess, Betty Lou Ranum Henry Hanson, Jean Morkassel and Earl Taus recelved superior ratlngs Five divisions were repre sented lnterpretative reading manuscript reading, original oratory, oratorlcal declamation and extemporaneous speaking, and one person was chsosen from each division to represent Warren 1n the d1str1ct contest held at Thief River Falls on March 17 Elvira Carlson gave the inter pretative readlngs, Laughters and Headlines, Whlle Lyla Urtes com peted in the manuscript division Jean Morkassel wrote her own oration entitled In God We Trust' and received a very good rating Earl Taus and Henry Hanson both received superior ratings. Earl competed in the extemporaneous division, and Henry gave the oration, 'Faith of Our Fathers. These two boys represented Warren in the regional contest held at Bagley on March 23, where Henry received a very good rating and Earl, a superior rating.
