The football team proves its worth every weekend of the season. Likewise, the band proudly marches to display its outstanding talent. WRHS students constantly utilize their abilities to make their school a great one. Several clubs have members who are officers in the state organizations. And each year we have a large number of students selected for All-State Chorus, Band, and Orches- tra, and the Governor’s Honors Program. The WRHS Literary Team almost always places in region and state competition, as do several of our athletic teams. The one-act play and the annual Revue give artistically inclined students a chance to present their entertaining capabilities. Each day, our skills and accomplishments shine brightly for all to SEE that WRHS is Number One! After many days of practice, Silk Corp members Allison Kent, Denise Adams, Michelle Perry, Laura Miller, and Andrea Gale anxiously await their chance to “show-off’’ their skills in the Homecoming Parade. Wow! Electing this group each year is a favorite among WRHS traditions Take a Closer Look . . . Traditions One of the best aspects of attending WRHS is experiencing the traditions which have become such a vital part of the school. These traditions are long- continued and have been handed down from class to class throughout our school’s history. Tradition, that ‘‘something extra,’’ fulfills a leading role at Warner Robins. It teaches us to appreciate and take pride in our school: its past, present, and future. We learn what is expected of us as sophomores and meet these expectations as juniors and seniors. As we endure club initiations ... order class rings ... build homecoming floats elect class officers ... plan the Junior- Senior Prom ... and attend club conventions, we live-out WRHS traditions. These traditions have allowed our school to remain a great one for many years. Students can choose from such diverse topics as welding, chorus, weight-lifting, and drama. Many people select classes that they feel will aid them in their future career or college, while others simply take what is necessary to graduate. Whatever the case, it is possible to take enjoyable as well as _ informative subjects during the six-period-a-day schedule. For future homemakers and future bachelors, home economics courses can be useful. Prospective college students will find the typing, math, English, social studies, and science classes to be beneficial. Art, chorus, band, drama, and creative writing courses will appeal to those people who are interested in fine arts. You may have to LOOK hard to find the right class, but whatever your interest or ability may be, WRHS has a class for you. Seniors have the distinct benefits of going to pep rallies ahead of the other classes, nominating the Homecoming Court, voting for Outstanding Seniors, exempting finals, relaxing on the Senior Bench, receiving their yearbooks before anyone else in the school, enjoying a “Senior Day,”’ and going on the Senior Trip Juniors order their class rings, sell magazines, and plan the Junior-Senior Prom. And for the sophomores, finally getting the chance to attend “the big school”’ is a privilege in itself. Each class has a definite identity which sets it apart from the others, and all of the students are proud of “their year’ and the class of which they are a Under the supervision of her senior instructor Shannon Greenwell, junior initiate Cathy Beveridge learns to do a Hawaiian dance as part of the Anchor initiations at Houston Mall. We scream our lungs out at pep rallies, wear as much red as we can, and do anything else necessary to show that we are proud of our school. Every club in which we are involved and every activity in which we participate is a conscientious effort on our part to get involved and show our school spirit. It is sometimes difficult to be spirited when we are fairly confident that our team will stomp on its opponent every week. But we are always proud to be part of the “Big Red Demon Machine” and the “Dixie Express,’ and it feels good to be able to say, “I go to Warner Robins High.” And no matter which way the game may turn out, we'll always feel a great sensation when we hear the announcement that “Ladies and Gentlemen, you are now in Demon Country!” Getting involved can sometimes mean hard work! After school one day in the fall, band members practice their halftime show Go Hawaiian! Mrs. Hammond and her students are dressed for the occasion on “‘Hawaiian Day.” INTRODUCTION 13 nother shou Take a Closer Look... Goals During our years at WRHS each of us will set and strive to attain some type of goal. Some of us will reach our goals; many others will fall short, yet perhaps gain more through the struggle. Many will run for office; others will do what is necessary to meet a certain club’s acceptance requir- ements. Still others will give their best effort to a particular athletic or artistic field Whatever the task, it will not be an easy one. Some will be recognized for their achievements, while many others will only be rewarded with personal satisfaction. But it is important to remember that it is through our attempts to succeed that we grow. And finally, growing is a common goal for all of us, for only as we grow can we clearly observe what is happening and actually TAKE A CLOSER LOOK at ourselves. In addition to the efforts she has put forth to help us become informed and to prepare us for the future, she has given much of her time outside the classroom to benefit school activities. During her years at WRHS, she has served as Social Studies Department Chairman and adviser to each year’s junior class in its production of the prom. She has been an active sponsor of the American Legion’s Oratorical Contest and has also helped sell tickets to athletic events, Follies, and Revue. As we leave WRHS we, the Seniors, will always remember her consistency as an educator and friend. It is with great honor and appreciation that we dedicate this annual to Mrs. Mary Hammond. Our relationships help us look forward to school each day, for sharing time with others helps us forget about all the homework, tests, term papers, and book reports that make up the seem- ingly endless assignments we receive. Talking to our friends allows us to express our feelings and to experience good times, struggles, and memories we can keep forever. Throughout their three years of high school, these spirited individuals proved consistently to be a creative and energetic group Memorable moments include winning the spirit and hall-decorating awards, “rolling” a hall, winning the spirit link contest, and planning the Junior-Senior Prom and the Senior Ball. Each year they gave the task of float-building their best effort and had a lot of fun working on all three floats. Chorus is made up of anyone who enjoys singing and is able to take the class. Choraliers are students who audition before the director and any returning Choraliers, and then are voted upon by these students. The staff next underwent some personnel changes and made a few alterations in the newspaper. One of the first of these was in changing the publication’s name from Fire and Brimstone to The Paper. Each issue was headlined by The Paper in a different language from the last edition’s. All the articles and features are headlined with the word the and then the title, such as “The Sports” or “The Horoscope.” The staff members did their best to print a good newspaper for WRHS. The theme, “I Made it Through the Rain,”’ was developed by having clouds, raindrops, and umbrellas hung from the lobby ceiling. After leaving the lobby one would ‘‘make it through the rain” by walking underneath the rainbow at the gym’s entrance and finding a beautiful spring evening within. Decora- tions inside the gym included a waterfall, a “‘lake”’ with floating candles, a gazebo, and tables ornamented with flower arrangements and raindrop candles. Tannhauser provided entertainment for the prom, and among the refreshments served was fresh boiled shrimp. All agreed that the Class of ’82 provided a well-planned, well-produced Junior-Senior One of the fancy decorations at the prom was this lake which actually contained water and floating for themselves and the °81 Seniors. eisai 272 LIFE! 1981 JR.-SR.
