The spring play, The Chalk Carden , was presented Friday, April 28. The play, under the excellent direction of Mr. Charles Stephenson and Miss ludy VanKirk, vvas a drama centered on a frustrated young girl, Sammi Soutar, and her struggles vvith her governess, Kathy Burns. The rest of the cast starred Margaret Lindenberg, Suzy Dickson, Daarla Meeks, Ken Bateman, and Phyllis Schaefer. Opposite page. On April 8 and 15, Capital University sponsored a mock Republican and Democratic political convention. High school students from across the state participated in the event, which was held at the university's Alumni Gymnasium. The students formulated a complete platform, nominated various popular political candidates, and ultimately selected their final party choice for the presidency and vice-presidency. The emphasis was on realism. The students held cacauses, gave eloquent nominating speeches, participated in massive and noisy demonstrations, and finally pledged and gave their delegation votes to their favorite candidate. sixty
