This year the Tartan staff is starting a new tradition. We are honoring one special person who has demonstrated outstanding abilities in teaching and in a commitment to the youth of today. It is with due respect that we honor Mr. Ralph Webster. Mr. Webster was born in Racoon, Indiana, and attended Russleville High School. Here he played on their basketball team. Upon graduating in 1924, he attended the University of Illinois, where he majored in Phys. Ed. and Mathematics. During his stay at the University, Mr. Webster was on three Big Ten Wrestling Championship Teams. In 1928 he was the Big Ten Heavyweight Champ! Mr. Webster received his B.S. in Education and went on to A. I. Kent High School in Indiana to teach. There he coached all sports, taught boys and girls phys. ed., math, and manual arts. In 1930 Mr. Webster came to Columbus as a Pro-Wrestler under Al Haft. He was then assigned to East High School where he coached football, basketball, and track. He also taught phys. ed. and math. In 1960 he transferred to Walnut Ridge where he coached football, track and taught arithmetic. Mr. Webster has managed the Central District Basketball Tournaments for 23 years. He is very proud of his family, his wife, two sons, a daughter-in-law, and three darling grandchildren, not to mention Snoopy, his dog. Mr. Webster is a very positive man and is always optimistic about the future. His ambitions are to make a hole in one, bowl a 300 game and continue making new friends while keeping the old ones. Congratulations! thirty-one
