Qf,Q,f:9 ,M VAN ELLIS We, the students of Walnut Ridge High School, in recognition of the untiring efforts of Principal Van Ellis, do hereby dedicate this 1952-53 Bobcat in his honor. In the fall of 1934 Mr. Ellis first appeared on the campus in the capacity of assistant coach. The following two years he coached at Augusta and Heber Springs, and in 1957 returned to W. R, H. S. to accept the position of Head Football Coach. Thus he remained for six years until mid-winter of 1942, when he was called into Service, serving in Aus- tralia and the Pacific Theater. Cn his discharge, Mr. Ellis was appointed Veterans Co- ordinator and in September of 1946, returned to the position of Head Coach. Upon receiving his masters degree in the summer of 1950, he left the athletic department and took over duties as full time High School Principal. As a coach, there were none more beloved and respected by his boys than Mr. Ellis. He seemed to possess that quality which made players go all out in their desire to win for him. As a school executive, his easy-going manner and constant toil have won him the respect of pupils and teachers alike. Mr. Ellis has made his mark as a coach and is nearing that goal as a school executive, for now graduating Seniors no longer remember him as a teacher, but as an institution. DEDICATION
