Health and Recreation important aspects of physical education are apparatus work to de- velop co-ordination, calisthentics to promote physical growth, and games to provide recreation. Equally popular is swimming, and boys and girls learn to swim well and gain confidence in the pools. But there is more to physical education than this. There is the devel- opment of sportsmanlike attitudes that have a real, lasting effect on the city. Participation in athletics fosters the ability to get along with other races and creeds. No one on a basketball court stops to think whether to pass to a Negro, a Jew, a Protestant, or a Cath- olic. l-le passes to the fellow in position to score. That's the way it should be in life, pass to thcse who can make a contribution to our American way of living. In addition physical education develops a strong competitive spirit Competition made America great and will keep her that way What better way is there to foster this than by competing on an athletic field?
