Before any achievement can be made there must be preparation for it. Preparedness for peace is just as vital as preparedness for war. In our dream of the postwar world we see a just and lasting peace, world understanding and cooperation, marvelous new inventions, and a high standard of living for all peoples. We believe that this world of peace and prosperity is possible, and that we can help to create it. Accord- ingly, we students under the able guidance and instruction of the Mfalnut Hills faculty are attempting to prepare ourselves to make this dream world a reality. The many and varied courses offered at NValnut Hills. optional and required. have each added to our fund of knowledge and experiences. By striving to uphold the high scholastic standards of our school and by studying cultural subjects as well as practical ones we have gained a fuller. richer life. In our study of history we have learned the true meaning of democracy, and we have evaluated present events in the light of the past and with regards to the future. We have been prepared for citizenship in the world. By our knowledge of French, German. and Spanish languages and customs. we have gained a better under- standing of these peoples and their problems. The knowledge of science and mathematics have given us the essentials for our understanding of new inventions and their contributions to a higher standard of living. Our studies have made us appreciate more the wonders of science. A workable knowledge of the English language and its great literary masterpieces have added a depth and solidness to our lives. Although Walnut Hills is primarily a college preparatory school, the foundations for many vocations are offered to those who have discovered their talents. Such classes as art, music. dramatics, and journalism provide courses in practical experience as well as technique. Wartime conditions have brought to our attention the necessity of understanding such subjects as economics. navigation, and aeronautics. These new courses have been added to our curriculum in the past few years. Yes. we at Walnut Hills are looking ahead to the postwar period and we are resolved to prepare ourselves to make this world a better place in which to liveg a world in which every man regardless of race or creed will have the same opportunities. a world in which racial discrimination and intolerance will have no place.
