Triple Trio Due to the fact that the Triple Trio was composed entirely of senior girls last year, a new group of girls with very little previous experience in small ensemble singing forms the Triple Trio this year, l-lovvever, their popularity has already reached beyond the limits of the school. The Triple Trio formed the nucleus of the Cirls' Revue Chorus, be- sides performing over the radio, at assemblies, in the Christmas and Spring Concerts, and for organizations outside of the school. Aflusic Appreciation Club The Music Appreciation Club vvas organized primarily to create an opportunity for young people to become familiar with the vvorlcs of the great composers, and to learn to love and understand good music. The club is accomplishing this purpose under the guidance of lvlrs, Laurence Ach, who presents comprehensive studies of composers and their vvorks, thus revealing to the members the art of true enjoyment of music l-larmonica Club One of the most unique clubs in the school, the l-larmonica Club, has reached many students who are interested in harmonica playing. Op- portunities are presented to acquire greater skill in that art, and profitable discussions are conducted in the meetings. 50 4 Bond This year, besides appearing in uniform at all our football games, the band had the honor ot marching in the Sesquicentennial Parade With Ezra l.uessen as Drum Major, it typified the spirit ot Walnut l-lills as well as the musical talent ot the school, JUDIOI' Chorus Under the direction of Miss l.ona B'acl4, the junior Chorus is a musical organization tor lovver school students vvith outstanding vocal ability. Not only does it provide an outlet tor musical talent, but it also serves as an excellent opportunity to train the younger voices in en- semble singing in preparation for the upper school musical units. Qrchestra This year the Orchestra, under the baton ot Merrill B. Van Pelt, has succeeded in obtaining tvvo periods a vveek during school hours tor rehearsals, ln addition to playing at The Merry Wives ot Windsor, The Blue Birdf' the Spring Concert, and graduation, the orchestra appeared in the Revue under the direction ot Doris Thornton. 53 Student Council The Student Council is the voice of the student body. Pupils have an opportunity to place any suggestions which they feel vvould improve the government or general vvelfare of the school in the hands of the Executive Committee. This committee in turn presents the matters before the Council, which considers them with the betterment of the school in mind. The manner in which problems have been handled proves the success of student government at Walnut l-lills, Stucliwfeourt Seni The purpose of the Student Court is to try some of the cases of students vvho violate school regulations, especially the cases which would be more familiar to the students than to the faculty. Among the activities ot the organization vvas the manage- ment ot the tootball banquet and the ping-pong tournament, besides the erection ot a score board tor the football tield, participation in the state l-li-Y conference, and con- tinuation ot the successtul Hbig brother program. The boys joined the Girl Reserves in various activi- ties, particularly in the arrangement ot the Vocational Guidance Lectures. Eagle Y Girl Reserves The Eagle Y Girl Reserves is an organization attiliated with the Y. W. G A., open to all sophomore, junior, and senior girls. The activities are based upon the development ot the three phases of litei spiritual, mental, and physical. Participation in the program ot the Girl Reserves will gain tor the participant a well-rounded character and will aid in the acquisition of a pleasing and forceful personality, True Blue Girl Reserves Membership in the True Blue Girl Reserves aids the lower school girls in the same respect as membership in Eagle Y is an advantage to upper school girls. Besides the tact that their ideals are similar to those ot Eagle Y, the club serves to unite the younger girls and helps them to make lasting friendships early in high school. irls, League Qllicers , The Girls' League is an organization in which every girl automatically becomes a member upon entering Walnut l-lills. Meetings are held once a month. A new teature in which there is an executive committee composed ot one representative from each home room was put into operation this year. Kg: I a Y Sisters The Hbig sisters, a group of girls selected from the senior class, are entrusted vvith the guidance of the nevv seventh grade girls. The pur- pose of the organization is to instill within the nevv girls the true spirit and academic ideals of Walnut l-lills, besides helping them to become oriented in a minimum amount of time. Traffic Squad Were it not for the loyalty and perseverance of the Traffic Squad, under the guidance of Dr, Senger, the entrance circle of the school would create a major traffic disturbance. l-lovvever, our boys have over- come those difficulties through their diligence and capability in hand- ling traffic situations efficiently. Botany Club The Botany Club is one of the most active in the school, A system of program committees has been devised, vvhereby it is possible for every member to participate in the planning and presentation of the meetings. ln addition to its regular meetings, the club plans a trip the first Thursday of each month to such interesting botanical sites as the lvluseum of Natural l-listory, Natorp's Nurseries, and the Eden Park Greenhouse. Zoology Club Under the able supervision of lvliss Etta Elberg, the nevvly formed Zoology Club has accomplished a great deal in its first year of or- ganization.
