The New Walnut Hills High School iEDITURZ'S NOTE--The REMian-mimmzalt Stat? of HBO wishes to thank the archi- tects, engineers, contractors and supply men. whose names are listed under the picture of the new Walnut Hills High School. for their hearty coiiperution. which has made possible this section of the Annual.1 ir' The dreams of :1 multitude of students have come true; the hopes of an earnest group of executives have been realized. The New School. that mystic phrase which has so long been only an ethereal mime, is now a potential reality. As each day passes, the vague dream approaches fulfillment. the abstract desires merge into a tangible form. We, who must leave ivVainut Hills before this great proiect is completed. feel a tinge of regret; but Wt: rejoice in the good fortune of the school itseil: and in the gleaming future of those who follow us. It was with deep regret that the student body was unable to be present at the ground breaking ceremony of :1 school to which they have looked Forward with such enthusiasm. But while the downptmr 01' min prevented the maiurity from being there, nevertheless on Wednesday morning, Innuary 8. tggu, :lt tcn-lhirty. 3 small group was present at the ground breaking. This group consisted of Mr. E. D. Roberts, Superintendent of Schools; Mr. Charles Uttermnn. ASSEStnm Superintendent: Mr. Davis, Principal: Mr. Evans, Assistant Principal; Mr. Haltdmam Business Manager of the Board oli Education: and members at the faculty and student body. Mr. Roberts spoke hriefiy. saying that the cnnstructinn of a school house was important to the pupils. their parents and friends. the patrons. and the community friends. Not only. he said. will the inside 01 the new school he the very best anywhere but the setting is superb. estreinlly on the side of the Boulevard. The new school is of importance to all. liar .111 shall lieeI privileged to go into :1 structure as Fine as the new Walnut Hills High School. Mr. Roberts concluded by saying 'The new school shali he the most beautiful high School in the United State:.. ' After every one present had turned over a shovellitll of earth, Mr. Handmnn mounted the temporary platform. The sky was leaden: the place was motioniess. At one side there stood a long line of mules. harnesses glittering. waiting for the signal; on the other side the huge steam shovels were placed. The man on the platform lifted his hand and shouted, Let's go! Immediateiy the long line of mules moved Forward; the shovel lifted high the First great mass of Ctlnh. A thrill shot through the little group. To the south a glimpse of the old school was caught: here. the new VL-Kiinut Hills was to rise. T156 new 5615001 lmd been started. The new Walnut Hills High School is situated nn Victory Boulevard near Blair Avenue. The exterior is of hrick and Redford stone. of :1 Virginia Colonial design. The Library unit facing the Boulevard. with its atone purtieo and copper dome, is the most conspicuous feature. around which all other features are grouped. the senior grades being located in the north wing and iunior grades in the suutlt wing. The Library has a classroom connected with it where instructions in Library Work is to be conducted. There is one more Feature providcd for, and that is the reception 0f radio in each classroom controlled from :1 master statinn in the general DFHCC. In the Physical Education Department there are to Ix- Lwn standard-sixcxl pools with space for sp-ectutors' seals.
