We wish to thank her on behalf of the students of Walnut High School, past, present, and future, for the many years of hard work and devotion she has given us. Homecoming Queen Lori Lubbs ruled over the three days of festivities. On Thursday night was the bonfire and snake dance with Seniors taking first place for their skit. Friday followed with the parade and football game. The Mighty Raiders trampled the Annawan Braves by a very large margin. The 1976-77 school year has come and gone at Walnut High School, and with it came many valuable experiences, exciting moments, memorable times, and, yes, a few sad events. But basically, this has been a good year. My family and I are proud to be a part of Walnut and of this high school. Mrs. Bechtold was the speaker and the Milwaukee Dance Band provided the entertainment. Post Prom Activities were held at Green River Country Club with entertainment by the 13th Precinct. 40 41 Qlje dvT tiM On Saturday, January 22, the First Annual Indian Valley Conference Speech Tournament was held here at Walnut High School. On Saturday, February 5, the speech team traveled to Rock Island to participate in the IHSA District Speech Contest, where we finished in the top five, a first in the history of WHS. WALNUT CHAPTER 82 ATHERTON GRAIN COMPANY This year's newspaper staff published 6 issues of the Raider Revue. The staff tried to keep everyone up to date on the latest news in sports, class happenings, band and chorus, organizations and many special features! The editor for 1976-77 was Joyce Brennan. Mrs. Wallace and Mrs. Bechtold were sponsors. 83 Otu Ltoik Student Council Student Council consists of students elected by their class to represent them. Each class picks one senator and several representatives. Student Council sponsors dances, Christmas and homecoming activities, freshman orientation and Arthur Apachito, an American Indian boy. This year the club participated in the spring play In 25 Words--or Death and had a speech team. The speech team received a fourth at district and Dennis Dahl went to sectional. At the First Annual Indian Valley Conference Speech Tournament held at W.H.S., the speech team placed second. Officers this year are: President.
