Walnut Community high School “ Zhe Walnut Volume 36 Published by the Annual Staff 1971-1972 edition Walnut. Jllinois Unique and progressive, this yearbook is meant to be read and re-read throughout the years. Its message lies not only in the written word but in the communication of the pictures, Dedication Seniors Underclassmen Organizations Athletics Activities 'Dedication EVA EWALT The annual staff of 1971-72 wishes to dedicate this 36th edition of the Walnut Tree to Mrs. Ewalt, our business teacher, in appreciation for her past 13 years of devoted service to Walnut High School and its students. ADMINISTRATION AND FACULTY MESSAGE TO CLASS OF 72 Stephen A. LaRussa—Superintendent Upon completion of your four years in high school I hope that each of you has acquired the maturity to assume the responsibilities and privileges of citizenship in a democracy. You will need to work cooperatively with others as you strive to realize your goals. Before you can really understand others, you must seek a deeper understanding and control of yourself and of your own attitudes and prejudices. Do not expect instant success in your chosen field. The guarantee of success is not a right but you do have the opportunity to use your talents and exercise your abilities to the utmost. It is essential that you develop a respect for work and excellence in performance, an appreciation of learning, and the ability to carry a task to completion. Do not underestimate your potential. 6 Front Row: Glenn Trone; Robert Linden, President; Tom Durham, Secretary. Back Row: Glenn Gonigam; Louis Gonigam III; Lyle Schrader; James Larson. Stephen A. The play, a three-act comedy about an “all-American boy”, was written by John Henderson and directed by Robert Wilson. 91 “] ou Wore Born on a Rotten Day” Senior Class Play “Astrology? Bah!” “Holding down the fort.” “Your lucky number is 3554664958674028. Watch for it everywhere!” On March 24, the senior class presented “You Were Born On A Rotten Day” by Christopher Sergei. This “comedy” spoof takes place at Galileo High School, which surprisingly enough did not have a telescope. The physics teacher poses as an astrologer, and after a couple of “astrological demonstrations”, a telescope was financed by the school board. The play was produced and directed by Mr. Robert Wilson.
