AUTU A two-year course offered to give a student work experience similar to that he will be called upon to perform when he is employed. He learns to make a preliminary survey before attempting any repairs. He can determine whether it will be more economi- cal to replace rather than repair a damaged panel, door, or hood. He learns to use hand and power tools, to make estimates , repair the car, and refin- ish it. A two-year course covering the services involved in the repair and mainte- nance of the car, internal combustion, electricity, hydraulics and pneumat- ics. Each automotive unit is approached by starting with the basic theory involved , as the explanation unfolds, parts are added until the unit is com- plete. By following this procedure, each unit has real purpose, and its rela- tionship to complete the car is made clear. The instructor explains the approaches by clear pictures and illustrations, what happens when you turn an ignition key on and start the engine , how energy in fuel is converted into power and the power is transmitted. This automotive mechanics course is recommended by the standard for auto- motive service instruction in schools prepared by the automotive industry, Vocational Education Conference . It covers also, numerous other topics of interest and practical value to the auto mechanics, such as proper attitudes, good work , study habits and safety work habits.
