ALICANTE Alicante, Spain was our last port in the Med cruise, before the turnover and our trip back to the United States. Our visit fell in early August. The city was noticeably clean for one of over 100,000 inhabitants. In the evenings families walked up and down the tile promenade pictured on this page stopping to listen to the open air symphony orchestra. The available recreational facilities of the city consisting of several fine beaches and ball fields were supplemented by those offered to us by a nearby U.S. Air Force Base. Dancing and relaxing at the Airforce EM club became a regular feature for many of the crew on their days The City and the Fortress on the Mountain Be- hind it. , X X X f f Q f f f off.
