Bruce Rich RECESSIONAL AWARDS CLASS ROLL Dorthell Hyde and Ralph Giffin were awarded the Citizenship and Scholarship Award sponsored by Waldport High School and Gary Pankey and Haysel Hays were awarded the American Legion Award for honor, courage, service, scholarship and leadership sponsored by the Waldport-Alsea Post of the Ameri- can Legion. Awards were also presented to the co-editors of the school paper, Colleen Delger and Ralph Giffing to the editor of the annual, Hayse1Haysg to the student body president, Ray Bray, to the class presi- dent, Gary Pankey and to HayselHays and Dorthell Hyde, valedictorian and salutatorian. INSPIRATIONAL PLAYERS ' .fx LARRY WALLACE GARY SARVER GARY PANKEY Football Basketball Track The Inspirational Players are chosen for four reasons: training, sportsmanship, inspiration to the team and leadership. An Inspirational Award is given in each sport. This was the first year such awards were given in Waldport High School. The players are chosen by their teammates, two coaches, faculty, principal and volunteer firemen: and the awards are sponsored by the Waldport Volunteer Fire Department. L, 1 ,siffst A New The Irish track team had their best season, cap- turing first in the Coast League Track Meet and first in the County Track Meet. In the District Meet, the Irish placed second, to be the first school in Lincoln County to ever place better than third in a district meet. Waldport entered five events in the state prelimi- naries and from that, one man entered the state finals. Howard Henderson placed fifth in the shot put. Another achievement was the third place won at the Hayward Relays in competition with twenty two other high schools. There were eight graduating seniors on this year's track team and Gary Pankey was presented the Inspirational Award. lil Sarver, Bray, Pankey and Murray, the 880 Relay Team.
