back at home, Virginia tech; . . . another courageous effort. the never-say-die deacons, down 10-3 at half, another comeback. a fumble recovered . . . a pass intercepted . . . wake scores. then a sustained drive for a 16-10 lead. wake offense runs out the clock. headlines next day: true, deacons are for real. university of maryiand . . . a team due for a victory; we were down, overconfident. ' wake found an opponent who threw no passes; they stopped our aerial game, running game worked well; but, wake ran out of time, maryiand, 19-14. homecoming, the blue devils . . . hart unleashed his passing attack, penalties and a fumble . . . duke, 14-0. great broken field running . . . 14-7; 37 yard field goal . . . 14-10. two touchdown passes and a field goal . . . 27-13. early margin too much for wake . . time runs out, again — duke, 27-20. 1 ' m

' football clemson ... at death valley. even game for 57 minutes, but . . . wake ' s onslde kick fails tigers score, 7-0. clemson fumbles . . . 7-7. running game works for both teams . . . 14-14. three minutes to go . . . clemson scores twice; 28-14. wake, 2-4 . . . could we win again? we always beat Carolina, . . . not this time. wake scores early . . . 3-0, then dies. mccauley runs kickoff 97 yards, Carolina, 7-3. mccauley scores again, three tar heel field goals . . . it was humiliating . . . 23-3. they wanted to win; did we? all seemed lost . . . but, wake didn ' t give up. for once, someone else got the bad break — Virginia. down 14-0, we fought back. game see-sawed, till 21-21. bad snap to punter . . . our opportunity for a safety. in rain, we won third game . . . 23-21.
