In 1922, Coach Phil returned to Wake Forest to serve as Director of Athletics, Director of the Gymnasium, and more recently as Director of Intramural Sports and Head Track Coach, He held the latter positions at the time of his death on June 15, 1950, With the passing of Coach Phil, the college lost one of Its most colorful figures For twenty-eight years, he lent his amiable personality and sober guidance to the molding of men and morals and to the general progress of the college.
