During these three years a war of defense has turned into a war
of offense, and the Allies have carried to completion their pledge to
stamp out those forces threatening enslavement of the world. Atomic
energy has been harnessed, and the World War ll has resolved by clysis,
but there are left the sequelae of unrest and the fretful groping of
nations for stability.
We have been spared the awful task of destroying our enemies -
indeed, we are privileged instead, to help bring life, and that more abun-
dantly to mankind of all races and creeds.
The Army and Navy programs of medical education have come and
gone. Doctors who have served in uniform are steadily returning while
others are going to fill their places. Some good men have gone to other
fields' a few Old Faithfuls have had to pause for second wind' and
many newcomers have already proved their merit. The unselfish over
and above the line of duty attitude of our overworked faculty has
won the admiration of the entire student body.
With relief at last expansion in every direction has begun and is
limitless in its possibilities. Research in ever increasing amounts is
going on behind the scene in every department with much information
of value being given the medical world through numerous publications.
Confidence in work well done is being shown on all sides.
