In the role of pro- duction manager is Mr. Philip Conser and having charge of the show are the ring masters Miss Marguerite Griffith and Mr. Fred Klag. The students participating in the many activities are the performers who have been trained by the faculty. Ladies and Gentlemen! Presenting the Circus! Tent I ..... CZJJJEJ Tent ll .... Faculty EDICATIO This year the thirty-fourth edition of the yearbook makes its dedication to Arthur Mills who has just completed his twentieth year of teaching here at Waite. He has been ably trained for this position, having received a Bachelor of Science degree from Ohio State University. During his first years at Waite, he was assistant and head baseball coach, trainer for athletic teams, and had charge of the purchase and care of athletic property. In 1937 he was dean of Freshman boys and for the last ten years has been advisor for the Q.D.'s. He has also taken an active part in the annual magazine campaigns. By his performance, much amusement has been added to the faculty shows fol- lowing the last two drives. One of Mr. Mills' most outstanding accomplishments was the standardization of the club sweaters. This took place during the depression and was a great saving to the students. For his unusual understanding and interest in the school and its activities and in the students and their problems, we are proud to dedicate this yearbook to him. Yes, the Seniors. The main event of the Senior Class was the Prom and Banquet held in the XWoinan's building on january 28. An expedition that will not soon be forgotten by the seniors is the boat trip taken to the St. Claire Flats on june 5, in cooperation with the other senior classes in the City high schools. Wfe would like to thank Miss Marion Hart for her able guidance and willing support in helping the Senior class in all our activities. WMV erffmfmerff Norma AI.llllliIl'l Imlel11w1.!w1l L.rJwy. The team was undefeated as it was last year. The only mar on the schedule was the disputed game with Woodward which caused the team to share the title with Libbey. Outstanding backfield players on this year's team were Tom Carnicom, john Hrabovski, Andy Contos, and Bob Owens. On the line were Elwood Fitterer, Ray Gunner, Bob Bumbera, and Russell Uncapher. These fellows work hard and conscientiously under the excellent supervision of Coach Konnert, always thinking of the time when they will play on the varsity. 64 as-. D on Jackson Under the competent instruction and direction of Miss Cecile Vashaw, the band does difficult work which takes much time. The band is alwa s re- Y P pared to play any type of music and to march in any kind of weather. The band began its work even before school opened by marching and playing in Monroe, Michigan, on Labor Day. The event the band enjoyed most was accompanying the football team to El Paso, Texas. They also went with the team to Elkhart, Indiana. They played for a professional game in Detroit before 45,000 spectators and before the Chamber of Commerce Feb- ruary 10. The band shows between halves at the football games are well-executed and entertaining. Wfith the help of the art department the band presents a Q 4 ' ' I performance the spectators look forward to seeing. Raw! Angelo Kostotf, Martha Zang, Margie Kerstetter, Howard Martens. XXfoodwinds, brass, and percussion instruments were added the second semester which made an orchestra instead of a string ensemble. These new students were brought in from the band. The orchestra participated in the annual string clinic at the Toledo Mu seum of Art under the direction of Samuel Gard from New York City. Among other activities, plans were made between the orchestra and the band for a E roast. This group is doing a fine job and is laying the foundation for a larger orchestra in the future. Almost anytime during fourth hour you can wander into the Annual class and find the members busy working on layouts, selecting phrases for senior names, choosing and following the theme which the artists will carry throughout the book. One of the most exciting parts of the work is choosing the color of the cover and choosing the person to whom the book will be dedicated. The business staff is kept busy securing adver- ,fft tisements and handling the subscription money. This 1 X 4' 4 is taken care of under the helpful guidance of Mr. Clair Dunn.
