Arts 81 Crafts Arts Cr Crafts is an engrossing study to many students. Some of the things the stu- dents make are clay figures, leatherwork, shell designs, and beadwork. Fingerpainting and special projects such as original Christmas trees are also undertaken. Through working with their hands. students are able to develop a creative and imaginative mind. 1 Learning to draw more than a straight line. Physical Education Physical Education is considered one of X ,P New A 5' the best classes by many boys. This depart- ment has been active in different types of sports. Some of the activities taken up are touch football, tumbling, basketball, soccer, softball, track, and ping pong. Physical Edu- cation develops good sportsmanship, fellow- ship, and reliability among the boys. Top: Craft students learning to weave. Bottom: Making leis with Hawaiian seeds Mechanical Drawing The boys in the Mechanical Drawing class progress rapidly. Accuracy, neatness, and speed in drawing are stressed in this particular class. The course develops the power to think and the ability to visualize an object. Girls who expect to do interior decorating or designing should take Me- chanical Drawing for it will be of great help to them in putting mathematical skill to work in their planning. HM ll il ll all the hard work. - S P day's work. GENERAL METALS The purpose of General Metals is to further vocational interests of high school boys. The students are divided into groups which take up bench metal- work, sheet metalwork, drafting, weld- ing, art metalwork and machinery. A variety of useful and ornamental objects are made in the shops. Different types of furniture, cups, dust pans, jewelry, and soap holders are some examples, A lamp contest among the boys is held at the close of the year to recognize outstanding work in originality and creativity. Latin students seem confused! Top: The finished product is worth Bottom- Fixin doors is art of the WOO DWORK ln Woodwork boys learn the funda- mentals of building furniture. They gain experience by handling machines of dif- ferent kinds. They make many useful things such as, tables, bookshelves, and desks. As part of their work they also help the school by setting up the ticket booth for football games, fixing broken chairs, and performing' odd jobs. Pedro and Francis watch jerry make a hammer head with the sharper. LATIN Amo te! Does this sound tor- eign to you? Well, it's Latin. Latin is considered to be a dead language, but it helps students increase their vocab- ulary, for Latin is basic to the study of English. Both first and second year Latin are offered students.
