HOME AGAI HGME AGAIN! When we first learned that July 20th was to be our coming-home day, it seemed un- believably far away. But, as we worked our way through UTRANSLANTEXU, time began .flying by and then, the big day was here at last. The engineers reported we'd steamed over forty thou- sand miles, burning nearly five million gallons of fuel. Fuel consumption had averaged out to 95.5 gallons per mile-not miles per gallon! The LAMPS Det figured their main rotor had made 4,485,324 revs and flown about thirty thousand miles with 308 takeoffs and, fortunately, 309 landings. 70,968 candy bars were eaten, 68,593 cokes con- sumed and, to the chagrin of the Surgeon General and the delight of the tobacco companies, 1,- 764,000 cigarettes were smoked. The Doc reported he'd seen over 3,000 people at sick call and rewarded them with over 1000 shots. Somebody figured we'd expended exactly 540.55 miles of toilet paper, along with 420,000 paper towels. The Captain couldn't remember the exact number of pier landings we'd made but said it was way too many. As we rounded the pier in Charleston and saw a banner saying It's been a long time, baby, we couldnlt have agreed more. It had been a long time. But, we'd done our job, done it well and, done it together as a team. It was a deployment of which to be proud. There he is! There he is! Stand b 94 Y your lines! The deDl0yment is really coming to an end. r Out 0 undel i 1 iv. E x S N

From an operational standpoint, WAINWRIGHT's deployment was extreme- ly Successful. We participated effectively in several large-Scale exercises with both U.S. and NATO units which included live firings Of all ship's weapons systems. Not a single hour was lost operationally because Of an engineering, Weapons Or operations systems failure. The Kudos On these pages are a tribute to the driving force behind the ship'S success - the men Of WAINWRIGHT.
