, . ' oreriilruoiis While deployed with the Sixth Fleet, WAINWRIGHT served as the primary air defense unit for Task Group 60.2. Our first carrier was USS INTEEPID and we participated jointly in several anti-submarine warfare exercises and daily air defense drills. Our stomping grounds were generally in the Western Med until late spring when USS J .F. KENNEDY relieved INTREPID. We spent May and June operating in the Central and Eastern Med with only brief stops in French and Spanish ports. We quickly became a team that Six- th Fleet Commanders could count on for any and all types of operations. mira il , ,VA 4 , gf I I i -u. 'I Y . .. 1. l wr-' .. VF . One of the more enjoyable aspects of be- ing deployed is having the chance to show off the ship to visitors. The scenes on these pages were taken as WAINWRIGHT played host to a group of U.S. Naval Academy alumni who happened to be touring Palma while the ship was inport. It was a fun afternoon for all concerned X f W! If . A 'CZ . f He's mine! No-he's mine! I saw him first 3 Thls helmet smells lxke a locker room! I . a genuine V A A x- H, IS Now thus.
