Other equally im- portant tasks include the gen- eration of all necessaryelectricity and the distillation of feed and fresh water. In the heat of the engine rooms the M's tirelessly repair valves, replace pumpbear- ings and gaskets, maintain tur- bines and reduction gears, scrub the deck plates and seeminglyend- less miles of piping. Thier hands always seem to be the dirtiest and their coffee the blackest but it all contributes to their alert watches and the outstanding appearance of their working spaces .......
