Turn. . . BY THH BYRDS A high school year is like the seasons. It begins in summer; turns on to a colorful fall; finds itself among the wonders of winter and ends when other things are beginning to live and grow in the beauty of spring. In this year there is a time for everything, from the little insignificant happenings to the very important events that mold our lives. These times make this year memorable to us as the year turns on. by Dianne Barry. Editor Michelle Ludi. Co-editor The following verses are taken from the Bible, Ecclesiastes, Chapter 3, Verse 1-8: “To everything there is a season, and a time to every purpose under the heaven. A time to be born, and a time to die: a time to plant and a time to reap: A time to kill, and a time to heal: a time to break down and a time to build up: A time to weep, and a time to laugh: a time to mourn, and a time to dance: A time to cast away stones, and a time to gather stones together: A time to embrace, and a time to refrain from embracing: A time to gain, and a time to lose; a time to keep and a time to cast away: A time to rend, and a time to sew: a time to keep silence, and a time to speak: A time to love, and a time to hate: a time for war and a time for peace. “To everything there is a season.” To Everything There Is a Season”... We need definitely to improve our library and our vocational program. And as all of you are well aware, facilities is an item that needs consideration,” commented Mr. Kenneth Ackermann, principal for the past 11 years at Wahoo High. Mr. Ackermann’s main job deals with job coordination of curriculum, the general operation of the high school and student-teacher relationships. With talk of redistricting in the near future, Mr. Ackermann finds it is of no value, “unless it is of an advantage to the students, and this in my opinion will give students within the area a much broader curriculum with improvement in the academic area and definite opportunity in the vocational areas which we now lack.” Mr. Ackermann finds that reorganization can be accomplished with a decrease in taxes within our own district and “a guaranteed high school attendance center for all students within the reorganized area. Mr. Ackermann and Dianne Barry look over the selection of Senior portraits. 29 There was always time for fun and relaxation in the teacher’s lounge. He also stated that very few of the school’s policies had been changed but that the Dress Code would be enforced only in extreme cases. Dr. Davis took an active part in all school activities and could be seen any time in school visiting classes and with the students. Seward, and David City. The Warriors beat these teams by at least 10 points each. The first game away was at Centennial. The Bronco's took a loss 32-8 from the Wahoo Warriors. Wahoo then played on their own field as host to Hickman Norris. Norris went home losing 14-0. The Warriors next traveled to Wymore Southern only to enter into a “flood bowl. Rita, Stetfe Reign at Homecoming It seemed as if school had just started, and it was time for Homecoming. The preparation and activities that combine to make Homecoming a success are many times tedious projects. Pep Club members started the week off by presenting blue and gold garters to a football player On Tuesday the girls gave the boys booster buttons, and Wednesday night was the annual pre-game bonfire. The football boys presented the skit as the Norris Titan burned amid the flames. Thursday the boys were given cupcakes and victory juice. Spirit was high as the big day finally arrived, and many weeks of careful planning and preparation were over. Chants of “Beat Norris” echoed through the halls. School was dismissed early for the afternoon. A brief pep rally was held including talks from Coach Thomsen and the co-captains Dick Sutton and Kurt Christensen. That night the Warriors met the Titans and defeated them 14-0. A 15 foot Warrior was the main attraction at the dance. At 11 o’clock the candidates were presented at the throne which was a blue and gold football helmet, for the 1969 Homecoming King and Queen. Rita Holstein was escorted by Gordon Duey; Mary Aim escorted by Kevin Ludi; Garnet Manstedt was escorted by Larry Cuda; and Debbie Dorothy was escorted by Steve Manstedt. The crownbearers were Jayne Wagemann and David McCabe.Suspense ran high as last year’s royalty Linda Chvatal and Dick French crowned Rita Holstein and Steve Manstedt. The reigning couple then led a dance. Music was provided by the “Fenn Trio” and refreshments were the compliments of the Pep Club. 58 Debbie and Gordon Garnet and Larry Mary and Kevin 59 WINTER A time to sing . . . Warrior Basketball The Wahoo Warrior Basketball Team suffered through their worst season in 1969 and 1970. New Coach Darryl Detlefson had only one senior on the squad for the opening game with David City, and none of the 1968-69 starters were on the team. Not only did the team suffer from lack of experience, but they also had no one over 6’ 1 ” to battle tall opposing players on the boards until 6’ 3” Lyle Schoen reported for duty a third of the way through the season. Led by Senior Kevin Ludi, the Warriors exhibited good team morale while asorbing defeat after defeat. The bright spot of the season is the valuable experience gained by underclassmen Lee Kramer, Jim French, Randy Holtorf, Sam Tillman, and Tim Brodahl, all who will return for the 1970-71 season.
