CONCERT CONCERT AND MARCHING BAND The Wahoo High School Band of 1959-60 had a very busy season. The marching band started off the year with four very fine appearances. The Band's best showing came on September 27 when they competed in the Ak-Sar-Ben Rodeo Band Contest. To prepare for this performance, rehearsals were held from seven until nine every morning. Several evening practices were also held. The exceptional rating of superior was received. The final showing of the band was at Harvest of Harmony in Grand Island. The band received a rating of excellent even though the competition was very stiff. Throughout the football season the band performed at all the home games. The first year girls used all the same patterns, but their own choice of materials; while the second year class used their own choice of patterns and materials. SNEAK TRIP On the Prowl The Annual Senior Educational Day, more commonly known as Sneak Day, was held April 30. The Seniors left Lincoln Friday at 11 p.m. and arrived in Denver early the next morning where the 1,210 students from their special train piled into buses and were off to breakfast at the University of Denver Student Union. The Seniors saw many points of interest. Among these were: the U.S. Air Force Academy, a Ghost Town, pottery-making, Seven Falls, the Garden of the Gods, where they had a chuck wagon dinner, and the Broadmoor Zoo. They also saw such well known mountains as Pikes Peak and Cheyenne Mountain, as well as the famous Antlers Hotel in Colorado Springs. The Seniors had the unique experience of having a bus driver who was unfamiliar with both Denver and Colorado Springs. He was, therefore, lost most of the time. The bus was always last to all the sites and late to all meals, all of which added to the excitement even more. The train left Denver Saturday evening at 7:30 p.m. and arrived in Lincoln Sunday morning at 4:20 a.m. SENIOR CLASS PLAY THURSDAY NIGHT CAST FRIDAY NIGHT CAST PRODUCTION MANAGERS THE DIARY OF ANNE FRANK’’ The Senior Class presented the Pulitzer Prize winning play, The Diary of Anne Frank,” April 7 8. The play was directed by Mr. Charles Carlson assisted by a staff of Luther College students. The play, The Diary of Anne Frank, which was also made into an Academy Award winning movie, is the true story of a Jewish family during World War II, when the Jews had to go into hiding from the Germans. It is an ordinary down-to-earth story, for it was written by a young girl, Anne Frank. Mr. Carlson double cast part of the play cast, because more than one person fit the part well. The cast and crew are as follows: Anne Frank, Marilyn and Kathryn Smith; Margot Frank, Jeannette Eads and Shirley Pearson; Mrs. Frank, Maeann Benson and Patty Lindquist; Mr. Frank, Frank Vybiral; Mrs. Van Daan, Rose Ann Cribbett and Mary Ann Vrana; Mr. Van Daan, Lester Miller; Mr. Dussel, Richard Vybiral; Miep, Jo Ann Rezek and Carole Krajicek; Mr. Kraler, Don Proett and Bill Miners; Peter Van Daan, Leon Olson. The stage managers are Rose Marie Lapour and Katherine Styskal. Publicity chairman: Goria Cameron; Wardrobe chairman; Kathy Rezac; Property chairman: Jean Dokulil; and stage crew manager: Lyle McKlem. TRACK VARSITY BACK ROW, Left to Right: John Swinney, Jim Sanderson, Warren Person, Don Proett, Bob Chmelka, Lester Miller, Ken Bouc, Larry Eads, Mike Jones, Jim Fleek, Frank Lehmkuhl, Mr. Graff. The team won a dual-meet with Valley; went to the Midland relays; placed second in a triangular with David City and Central City; competed in the District Track Meet at Schuyler; and took fourth place in the Platte Valley Conference. The only member to qualify for the State Meet was Jim Fleek in the 100 yd. dash. The 1960 lettermen are Jim Fleek, Frank Lehmkuhl, Lester Miller, Bob Taylor, Larry Eads, Richard Patton, Larry Everman, Ron Treptow, and the student managers; Gary Rezac, Jerome Chvatal.
