Student Librarians are on duty in the Library each period during the day performing such tasks as checking hooks in and out. helping students find materials, and keeping the library shelves in order. In the library classes, these students plan and make the posters and display materials for the bulletin boards and special displays; they make special studies of the organization of the library, of the outstanding reference books in the various subject fields, and of the basic library tools such as the Readers’ Guide and card catalog. They mend and repair books and periodicals; review new books being added to the library for the school paper. All of this adds up to one unit of credit per semester for the student assistants—but more important it adds immeasurably to the efficiency with which the library can be operated and serve the students.
