O CLASS PROPHECY With my palette and brush in hand one early spring morn, I set up my easel in a nearby meadow and started to paint a colorful landscape. Upon its completion. I sat admiring my artistic miniature when raindrops suddenly began to fall. When the rain stopped, I gazed at my m'niature and what a mess , . . Nevertheless. it formed a picture of the future. After straining my eyes. I saw a clear picture of the future. This is the way it looked: Who's who in the news?? Bonita Lindon, U. S. Ambassador to Russia, has just been appointed to straighten out our indifferences. She may get along quite well with Molotov. Elaine Slzadonix has just been re-elected and is starting on her sixth term as the leading auctloneer of the Chicago Stock Market! About to open the seas on with a famous opera featuring Chopin music, I see Joan Virgl, the most talented student of Rubinstein. The best known vocalist of the year. Jean Virgl, will accompany her, Shirley llIr4Veely, now Mrs. Poison Lindgren, seems to be quite busy with her household duties in addition to living up to her reputation as seamstress of the neigh- borhoodf' Having been in the cafe business for nine years, Marjorie Wotipka has unified the Wahoo cafes and is now the proprietor of the Wahoo Cafes Incorporated. Joy Swanberg seems quite proud of herself after having acquired the position of manager. .llareella Filbrandt has been employed as the frm's bookkeeper. Behind the PX counter, I see Mary Lea .lltxllalzon earning pin money to help meet her and her GI husband's expenses. The student dramatic director at Notre Dame is none other than Phyllis Dickinson. The inseparable Ayers tw'ns have at last parted. Amid the passengers on the Queen of the Seas , I see June Ayers who is starting on her two year sight-seeing cruise around the world. As my eyes rest upon a sign on wh'ch is inscribed Marilyn's Beauty Salon for Men . I realize that the beauty operator could be none other than Marilyn Rorlzford, Listening through a keyhole. I learn that .llarilyn .Yeidfell is an accountant in New York's largest department store. Who do I see doing rural charity nursing as well as part-time nursing at the old people's home taking care of the gents??? Who could it be but Joan Anderson? Dorotlzv Jelinele has been teaching country school in western Nebraska for 22 years now. She is looking forward to retirement soon. A second look is required to distinguish the two contented spinsters, Pat Rorlzfora' and Delores Siriggow, sitting on the porch of their lonely house gazing at the sunset and recalling their tender high school memories. N. conference was one of the toughest conferences competing in Nebraska. The teams were above average, and the backs were unusually scrappy, Platts- mouth presented a massive forward wall. teamed with several versatile backs, and loomed an early favorite for the season. Ashland offered a surprising' reserve strength. but was destined to fail because of insufficient dependable ball carriers. They offered a big resist- ance, however, because of rugged defensive work and clever coaching: l3lair's inconsistency and varying line play are the only evident reasons owing to ther failure. The team itself was well-balanced and boasted two of the best backs in the conference. The other teams, Valley, College View, and llellevue were average: but could not meet the rising competition of the rest of the league. VVHTIUO caught fire after a slow, but informative start, and pro- ceeded to win the conference: later they seriously threatened one of the ten coveted positions in the state ratings. Vtlahoo looks forward to a favorable season next year, but looks not heedlessly to the appalling lack of reserves. The season for the warriors reached a dramatic close when the teams clashed for the conference championship at Ashland, The unparalleled rivalry between the two schools added a unique aspect to the game. Every year. the two teams face each other in a duel which represents a rivalry that carries a significance far beyond the meaning of an ordi- nary football game. The outcome of the game would signify either an embittered defeat or a jubilant victory. The game was fiercely contested before a crowd of almost two thousand rab d football fans. The deciding points came to Vlfahoo within twenty-five seconds of the final gun. A field goal climaxed a final drive which led an inspired team down the field to the inevitable score. jim Hancock Keith Treptow Ray Lanile Hack Guard End . V., f . THE BASKETBALL SEASON The Warriors finished a comparably poor season with a loss to Tekamah in the District Baskefhall Tournament at Fremont, The season was undeniably poor, due to a lack of h ight. and the loss of Ray Lan k, a last year's choice for All-Conference center. The War- riors did not finish the season in pftlable despair, however, and before they bowed out of llxe 1949-50 season they won a gallant victory from a lustful Schuyler team, The team reached a deplorable low when they suffered a terrific walloping from Mead. Later they returned to scare the highly touted Plattsmouth quintet, and later lose a toss-up to Blair's powerful Bears. The only reason for the shameful scores of the midseason was a lack of confidence and team spirit. After regaining their confidence, the VVarriors proceeded to become a worthy opponent for any of the Class B schools in Nebraska. IN DNGLUSIUN VVilh this annual, we, the seniors of 1950, mark the end of our four years in high school. Preserved in this hook are a thousand memoriesof what to most of us were the four best years of our lives-years of ev the records of our achievements follow us. Here. however. are accomplished. Those are still knowledge gained here in high ents and people not easily forgotten. Among its pages are in many f.elds, May they serve as inspirations to those who not our hopes and ambitions, our visions of things yet to he only dreams which will be fulfilled with the help of the school-knowledge not only in the practical arts but in the art of living successfully with our fellow men. Today well-lived makes every yesterday a dream of happiness and every tomorrow a vision of hope. Patricia Gleeson 1 'runzN1'Lxr: S U 7 X k W j Mf f f G , .
