FROM THE PAST T0 THE FUTURE Friends and nelghbors are offering the1r congratulations But the Class of 1947 pause at the poitals of Wahoo Hlgh School for one last lool They are rather frightened at the prospect of leaving thelr home and classmates of four years and doubtful of their capab1l1t1es in the compet1 tive woi ld or the wage earner And as they stand disconnected pictures of all that they have done together appear before them like scenes viewed through a stereoscope There is the moment of anxiety Just before the cur tain rises on their great production aniuous glances at the sky vwhlch are an lntegral part of a picnic lonely halls mysterious lights and popcorn when the Chieftain staff is vvorkmg after supper three sh11ll bells signal lng a general assembly for lectures or entertainment the discussion of formals or dates for the Junior Senlor Prom semester tests music re faces Each instructor has endeavored to treat them as 1nd1v1duals with individual Capab1l1t19S problems and goals Each has trled to teach them to think so that theS may cope with any situation which may arise to become worthy citizens to improve character and to have high ideals as well as to 1nst1ll knowledge They give the keys to the future The QCOHOIHIC and soclal COI1d1t1OHS of the future are uncertain Governments are in a state of upheaval Nations are still wary of each other although the UN has made some progress in that d1I'6Ct10H In this world they must make their way and in addition improve the lot of their neigh bors But they are no longer afraid of the problems they will encounter Their parents teachers and friends are confident of their courage and ability They straighten their shoulders wave goodbye to the audlen e, turn and march steadily to their future Geraldine Gregg .
