Wachusett Regional High School Annual 371.8 MOU 1976 C2 463 Wachusett Reg. H.S. Library « psai 4e Wachusett Rc ional Hi oh School Mr. Lengas: an educator unique in character. For the past 20 years he has enhanced Wachusett’s atmosphere with his " sky blue pink, ” " gee willikers” and various catchy pet names. Behind all these baffling linguistics, Mr. Lengas is a man of kindheartedness and true devotion. He has always kept himself involved as coach, advisor and teacher in addition to twelve years of dedication to the publication of the yearbook. Mr. Lengas will aways be remembered for the service he has given the Wachusett appe¬ tites with his sales of candy bars, coke, Goobers and Raisinets. For these reasons, and many more, the Class of 1976 wishes to dedicate their yearbook to Harry Lengas. 2 3 Yearbook Message from the Superintendent of Schools 1976 A year ago, a GAZETTE editorial entitled " High School Consumers Speak” described students and recent graduates of two area high schools publicly reg¬ istering constmctive criticism of their schools. I should like to ask you to do the same. Our guidance office will ask your evaluation of your high school preparation one year and five years from now. But you don ' t have to wait for their questionnaire! Your comments in this case won ' t help you personally, but they will help those students who follow you, as post graduates’ comments have helped us improve things for you. Looking farther afield, we urge you to make your reactions known by means of CONSTRUCTIVE criticism - courteously, diplomatically, but candidly - to ANY organization which provides a service to you either as a public agency or for a price. Doing your share involves not only helping provide services, but also helping those who decide WHAT services to provide and HOW. Many of us do listen! Consumerism can be a positive force as well as a negative one. We wish you happiness, the sleep which follows honest labor, the satisfaction of having created something of quality, and the peace which comes from within. MR. WILLIAM CAREY - Assistant Superintendent MR. DAVID JOHNSON - Business Manager Superintendent ' s Office Secretaries MR. PETER FARRELLY - Associate Superintendent 4 ADMINISTRATION Very truly yours, Harold M. Lane, Jr. Director of Secondary Education and Principal Your graduation from Wachusett Regional High School will coincide within a month to the two-hundredth anniversary of your country ' s birth. And, not unlike that decla¬ ration of independence of two centuries ago, you, too, will be setting out over unc¬ hartered ground - full of hope, idealism, and faith in your own potential for growth. And like that fledgling nation, you will be judged, not by a single event, but by the sum total of the quality of the years that will follow. And yet, we too often lose sight of the years previous to our own •personal declaration of independence - the years of growth, of learning, and of testing the limits of our own potential. Hope¬ fully, you will be able someday to look back beyond the milestone of your gradua¬ tion day and find fond memories of your years spent at Wachusett. For no declaration of independence can really be made to stand without a background of supportive teaching and leadership be it by parents, teachers, or friends. It is my sincere hope that these years spent at Wachusett have broadened your hori¬ zons , expanded your vision of the world around you, and provided a solid base for the declaration you are making with the presentation of your high school diploma. It is my sincere wish that you find happiness in the years ahead and, in that happiness, success in whatever endeavor you choose. Keep in touch. A many-faceted individual, he will always be remembered for his strength of character and his concern for the students whom he referred to as " scholars. " If there were balm in tears, my own would flow, For such a gentle man has left this place A world so desperate in its need t o know His deep compassion for the human race. But there is much to solve and life is brief, And we are too aware it is man ' s fate To sing his elegies of praise or grief Always, in shame, with love a little late. That first year with its many adjustments With all its ups and downs. The year was so new and exciting; It was the start of a journey to another beginning. That year number two was there, With all its classes, grades, and bells. Sometimes it was all so depressing, But stuck between were the days of laughter. Well there you were — upperclassmen — finally, New rings and new plans. You were really getting involved. The spirit, hope and anticipation all added up, didn ' t they? Now we are here, almost done, yet haven ' t even started. Worries, colleges, the — Am I going to make it? Glad to be getting out in the world at last. But scared to lose all that you have been through. Your friends and family. The good times and the bad, make up those jewels of memory. That will dwell in the treasure chest of life and time.
