Gymnasts Improve In ’88 “It was a most enjoyable season! The girls worked hard, achieved many individual and team goals and cooperated with teammates and coaches in a truly team effort” stated Ms. Olson when asked about the ’88 gymnastics season. Becky Rolbiecki joined the coaching staff and was a very welcomed addition to the program. Both “A” and “B” squad teams reached team record high scores in dual meet competition and the varsity team moved up to the sixth place finish in the regional standings. Captains of the 1987-88 squad were Carol Sobeck and Lisa Walton. Carol was selected by her teammates as the squad’s most valuable player, and Lisa received special recognition for establishing a new school record in the “All-Around” competition, setting a mark of 30.40 points. 1st Row: A. Coach Chuck Karger said that the mass inexperience started to fade after that as the Indians won four of the next five games. The highlight of the season was a victory over the highflying Lewiston Cardinals. (Lewiston was undefeated and unscored upon in five games before the W-K game. The Indians dominated in a 28-22 win.) W-K, however, saw their playoff hopes go down the drain in a 6 to 8 loss to Chatfield in the final game of the season. Individual honors in the form of All-Conference recognition went to Dennis Bussian, Tom Passe, and Jason Gamble. The underclassmen are saying around school, “Wait till next year.” My Hero. (T.
