The 1986-87 school year was an excellent year academically and also went down in the trophy case as one of the best in extracurricular activities. The fall season was highlighted by a 8-2 football record and District Three Champs in volleyball. The winter season saw very successful boys and girls basketball teams and a District Championship for the One Act Play. Participants in spring sports of golf and track enjoyed winning seasons as well as the baseball team which made it to Regionals. We caught the wave at W-K and rode it through a great year!!! 3 1. The week started out on Monday with students dressing up for Hawaiian day and progressed as Toga day, Punk day, Grub day, and Red White Hat Sunglass day rolled around. Monday night was set off with a bonfire followed by a car caravan to Plainview (which Lance will never forget). The volleyball team lost to Lewiston on Tuesday but won on Thursday when they played El-gin-Millville. The first in a long time parade was held Friday at 1:30. The parade consisted of the homecoming candidates, volleyball and football teams, cheerleaders, band, and floats which each grade constructed. The parade started at the Anderson House and ended at the middle school where the powderpuff football game and tug-o-war were held. The football game against Plainview was held at the high school due to the large amounts of rainfall we received. (The river was up approximately 13 inches!) The week wound down on Saturday after Bernard Richards and Amy Blaschko were crowned king and queen at the dance. Music was provided by KQRS-92. 1. Homecoming royalty, Amy Blaschko and Bernard Richards. 2. Powderpuff game between the junior and senior girls is played at the Middle School. 3. Homecoming candidates: S. Tentis, S. Bouquet. A. According to coach Kay Olson the uneven parallel bars continue to be the weak event for the Indians, but the girls made measureable improvement in the area. By the end of the season, the varsity squad had five girls performing kips. The team scores are no reflective of the successes and accomplishments of the teams during the 86-87 season. The B team is looking strong, also, and W-K looks forward to fielding a very competitive squad next season as W-K does not lose any letterwinners to graduation this year. Exceptional singing and dancing characterized this year's exciting performances with vocal direction by Mary Brelsford and choreography by Anne Pflaum. The story revolved around interweaving romances, a floating crap game composed of hardcore gamblers, night-club dancers, and a mission to save unfortunate souls. This year, the stage was transformed into Broadway, complete with street scenes and nightclubs above and a city sewer below. Extravagant sets and costumes, plus very long, hard practices were rewarded with a great time complete with three exciting standing ovations. D. We had two talented juniors, Denae Fiedler and Lisa Walton; and one hardworking sophomore, Karen Johnson. The highlight of the season was Laura's placing second overall in the state competition. Wallerich The 1987 season started out very optimistic for the Indians as they played [ some very good ball the first couple of games only to come up a little short. Then after a couple of wins the rest of the season proved to be very difficult as the opponents racked up many hits and W-K many errors. The season included several people being used at different positions to find that perfect combination but the season was over before the team could jell. Despite the record the season was a success as far as a learning experience for the girls. The season will be remembered most for the contrast in temperature for the games, along with the controversy of St. Charles' pitcher, and whether we would get the district game played in the rain. A. To live our lives as adults at last. We re leaving our friends and families behind. We'll finally be making up our own confused minds.
