Studying??? il Homecoming is . . . 48 Homecoming was here and gone so fast, but it was one homecoming that will not be forgotten soon. The days of the week started us out but made us look as if we were no longer in high school (maybe that's why we did it!). Monday was Toga Day. That night we held the creative skits, | beautiful bonfire, breathtaking snake dance, and crushing car caravan. On Tuesday, we felt (and looked) like we were in 90-degree weather. Yes, it was Hawaiian Day. We also had our second annual powder-puff football game which the senior girls won!! j Wednesday made us look like we were from a different world. It was Punk Day. Thursday was Nerd and Camouflage Day. This was the day that 100% of the guys participated in one way or another. Friday was Red White Button day. We had a pep fest which included the senior snake and a pie-eating contest during which Dean Fiedler got carried away and put his pie in Mr. Smith's face. That made everyone's day but so did the football game against Dover-Eyota. We were losing up until the last 36 seconds, and we got a touchdown! Saturday night Yike and Judy were crowned at the dance which featured the rock group Gemini. A Total Eclipse of the Heart Juvie J. Schuth, C. Silker, L. Bayer, J. O'Flaherty, T. Harms, T. Ellinghysen, C. Schones, K. Carson, C. Johnson he The One-Act play “Juvie was a more serious play then the ones that have done in the past. It took place in a juvenile delinquent center during the course of a night. The One-Act competition took place at Chatfield on January 28. The cast members received good ratings from all of the judges and placed fourth among the nine schools there. “Juvie was then performed for the public that same night in the high school theatre. so Tisha Harms Sunny ............ Meet the proud new parents! Winter Carnival and Sadie Hawkins were combined this year due to lack of funds for two dances. Therefore, there were two sets of royalty. The Days of the Week included Camouflage day, Hawaiian Day, Ribbon Day, Western Day, and something new. Security Day. On this last day, students brought items such as blankets, stuffed goys, and Cabbage Patch dolls — all those things which make one feel secure! The dance was held in the Commons on Saturday, March 31. Students danced to the music of Mafficks. Against All Odds was the theme. ■ Anything Goes . . . This year's musical was Anything Goes by Cole Porter. It was a comical play which took place on a ship. It was like the modern-day Love Boat with everyone falling in love. People started singing and dancing whenever they felt the rhythm in their feet. Ms. Parish said that the best part of the play was the dedicated cast members that stuck it out. She knew that it would be a challenge for some people. She also stated that is was a fun musical to direct, act in, and watch. This year's best actress and actor were Tisha Harms and Mike Noll for their portrayals in the musical. The best supporting actress and actor were Jackie O'Flaherty and Jim Schuth for their performances in the one-act, Juvie. Front: T. Harms, T. Wick, J. O'Flaherty, T. Ellinghysen. Back: P. The prom committee chose Heaven as the theme which was played by the group Meanstreak the band for prom. We Made It!!!- The 1984 commencement exercises were held in the high school gymnasium on June 1. Mike Bouquet and Lisa Allen were chosen as junior escorts. Speeches were given by the co-valedictorians, Carol Schones and Pam Sperl; salutatorian, Brian Lamey; class president. Shannon Meyer; and class representative, Tisha Harmes. The senior members sang the class song “Sojourn. Final Memories Class Motto: I've been going a long time now along the way I've learned some things. When this announcement appeared in the daily bulletin, annual staff members steered clear of the business area. They didn't want Mrs. Loshek to ask them for their pages which weren't done. Excuses such as I spilled a shake all over them, I just didn't have enough time, Someone took my pictures, just weren't good enough. So we finished our pages. We came during the summer and finished the book. We hope you enjoy it. Front Row: S. Glomski, J. O'Flaherty, R. Harlow, S. Tonsfeldt Back Row: P. Winters, C. Lamey, J. Kohn, L. Packer, S. This year's NHS members really showed a great deal of ambition by having a variety of fund raisers. During the football season, WKHS hats were sold (which helped to boost the school spirit even more). Before Christmas, there was a fruit sale. On Valentine s Day, carnations and kisses were sold and delivered by Tisha Harms and Paul Wallerich. The candy sale in April was also very successful. The money from these fundraisers was partially used for scholarships. The remaining funds paid for their main trip to the Twin Cities. There the members spent the weekend of May 19 and 20 visiting Valleyfair, staying at Hotel Seville, and attending Chanhassen Dinner Theatre. Participating in High Quiz Bowl this year were Pam Sperl, Tammy Miller, Brian Lamey, and Mark Gusa; Carol Schones was the alternate. 59 German Club The German Club concentrated on the cultures of the German people. Coach Karger said, “1983-84 marked the entry of W-K High School into the Three Rivers Conference. The football team made this occurence much more noteworthy by winning the conference championship with a 6-1 record and having Mike Noll, Mike Loechler, Jim Peters, Jim Swanson, Frank Speedling, and Roger Arens selected to the All-Conference Team. The Indians thereby qualified for the state play-off and proceeded with victories over St. Croix Lutheran (38-22) and Rochester Lourdes (21-16) before losing to the eventual state cham- pions, Jordan, in the semi-final game (0-20). Final record 10 wins and 2 losses. Jim Peters set a new school rushing record with the help of his teammates (1447 yards on 211 carries). Mike Noll and Jim Peters were named to the A.P. All State Team. Assistant Coach Fredrickson said, “It was a great year for W-K football. This team will go down in the school's history as one of the best we've produced. The girls then went against Chatfield in the quarter finals of districts but were beaten. The squad was led by co-captains Jenny Greenheck and Shannon Meyer They did an excellent job leading the girls through a very fine season. The teair chose Jenny Greenheck as the team's M.V.P. Lisa Williams and Tara Ellinghysen were selected to the Three-Rivers Conference team. Going from a 3-9 record to a 9-6 record indicates the potential that these girls have. What a great season! Those were the words of Coach Glenn Huntoon when asked about this year's B-squad volleyball team. The team was more experienced this year with 11 returning sophomores. They tallied up a conference record of 9 wins and 5 losses. The girls and coaches look forward enthusiastically to next year! Improved Abilities Help B-Squad Front row: S. Meyer, L. Packer, T. The boys 400-meter relay team did exceptionally well in regions but did not advance to state. The team consisted of Klas, Kohn, Peters, and Loretz. Loretz advanced to regions in two other events — long jump and 100-meter dash but did not place. Mike Loretz was named MVP for the year. The girls team had a good season led by captains Shannon Meyer and Deb Vaplon. Michele Arens placed well in the 100-meter dash. Our relays did fairly well as did our distance runners. The overall record was 7-6. The conference record was 2-3. Finishing as runner-up in the districts. Coach Anderson said, I am very proud of the boys on a job well done. The Indians were shutout 5-0 by the Cotter Ramblers for the second-place finish. The softball team ended their season with a 2-15 record. Coach Schumacher said that inexperience was the biggest factor with eight of the fifteen players out for their first season and only one returning senior. The team put a lot of effort in the games but the playing skills were not at a high enough level to win some of the games. Coach Schumacher also said, with some hard work by the returning players, the team will enjoy success in future years. Terrie Pfeilsticker was selected as MVP.
