Altogether on this year’s squad there were 17 lettermen. On next year's squad there will be five returning lettermen. Wabasha High started off with a boom and won their first two games of the season. After they won their second game of the season which was against their worst rival of the season which was Lewiston, they went into a slump and lost all the rest of their games. When they played Lewiston they played their best game of the season. October 5 Wabasha 6, Stewartville 26 October 12 Wabasha 0, Chatfield 19 October 19 Wabasha 13, St. Charles 23 Conference Record: Won 1, Lost 4 Lettermen are as follows: Cc-captains John McDonald and Pete Gosse. Other team members that lettered: George Billings, Bernard Roemer, Jack Zierdt, Dave Kennebeck, Gene Dammann, Dan Cliff, Leigh Johnson, Robert Meurer, Charles Dor nack, William Wempner, all seniors. The juniors are as follows: Irvin Chadwick, Mickey Burns, Gomer Jones, Pete Klas, Roger Meurer, a sophomore. The basketball team ended up with eleven wins and eight losses not including the tournament. During the conference schedule Wabasha won eight and lost two, only to finish in second place in the Whitewater Conference. They finished behind Lewiston who had ten wins and no losses. Wabasha made its best showing in basketball this year that it has made in quite a while. Wabasha played Lewiston in the first game of the tournament at Winona TC and lost by the score cf 48 to 25. Lettcrmen are as follows: Brad Jensen, Rich Counter, Irv Chadwick. Leigh Johnson, Roger Meurer, Gene Dammann, Jack Zierdt, Pete Gosse; and the managers Pat Halverson and Gomer Jones. 19 Pete Gosse is missing from the picture.
