The WHS chapter of Quill and Scroll. an international honor society for high school journal' ists, was established here on November 21, l94l. Quill and Scroll was founded in 1926 at Iowa University to give recognition and encouragement to high school students who are interested in journalism. The following qualifications for membership are required: the student must be of junior or senior classification: he must be in the upper third of his class in general scholastic standingg he may be elected from newspaper, yearbook, magazine and handbook staffs, and must have done superior work in writing, editing, or business management, he must be recommended by the school principal or publications adviser and approved by the executive secretary of the national society. Illllll All Sllltllll Quill and Scroll has a membership of six at WHS. They are, from left to right, Fred Squires, Dick Wolpert, Ramona Smith, lim Armstrong, Linda Gray, and Shirley Baxter. Fred was editor of the QGB his senior year, news editor in 1953, on its sport staff his soph- omore year, and is a copy editor of the Sycamore. Dick worked with the paper for two years filling jobs of reporter, circulation editor, and associate editor: Dick assisted as Athle'ics Editor of the Scyamore. Ramona gained her membership in Quill and Scroll as co-editor of the Sycamore. The position of sports editor of the QGB was filled by lim Armstrong for three semesters. He is also one of the sports editors for the Sycamore. Last year Linda was feature edi'or of the QGB. She is Circulation editor of the Sycamore. The only junior in Quill and Scroll is Shirley: she has been on the staff since her freshman year. Shirley was feature editor of this year's paper. Page Fifteen
