You Can't Take It With You Senior Class Play - April 10, 1950 Martin Vanderhof tGordon Kintnerb had long ago made his peace with the world and with himself. He realized that a man was not getting the most out of life unless he was doing what he wanted to do. So one bright morning he came down in the elevator and never went up again. Since that time, for thirty-five years he had been presiding over a mad-cap house- hold whose occupants were allowed to live to the fullest degree without any restrictions. He refused to pay an income tax and was, there- fore, visited by an irate income tax collector tRichard Leonardj, who thoughout the ,play sent threatening letters to him. Vanderhof's daugh- ter, Penelope Sycamore tlvliargery Martini, was a writer of plays, none of wihich had ever been produced, and a paiinfter of pictures which would never find their way into any gallery. She had married Paul Sycamore tDavid Smithl. whom she :met at a fireworks display, and whose chief concern was 'manufacturing fireworks in the basement of their home. Thev had reared two daughters, Essie and. Alice. Essie tMary Ann Nauglel desired more than anythingto become -a great ballet dianc-er but was resigned to mak- inle candv and selling it, until the big break came. She had married Ed Carmichael fRf-.n- ald Hollofwayl who spent his time vplaying the xvlophone and operating' a printing press. In this household also 'were Donald -and Rheba. tBill Rife and Barbara Schlemmerl, a colored r-ounle who considered themselves part of the family, and Mr. DeiPina CMarlin McDanielJ, an ice man who had come to deliver ice five PRODUCTION STAFF Director ..,............................... They became engaged, and their romance progressed smooth- ly until Anthony's parents tMlartha Pearson and John Brackenl, veny aristocratic people, ca-me to dinner on the wrong night and found the family engaaed in the various occupations. Enter Boris Kolenkhov tBill Plyb. Essie's ballet instructor who -proceeded to demonstrate a wrestling hold on Mr. Kirby. Things went from bad to worse and the fin-al indignity came when the home was inviaded by three men from the Department of Justice CTed Parker, Bob Baxter. and Leonard Drookl, who were suspicious of some circulars Ed had' printed and distribut- ed and who arrested the entire assemblage plus a drowsy friend of Penny's, Gay Wellington fDorothy W-assonh when they discovered Paul's fireworks in the base-ment.
