Thomson was employed as an agent to traverse the Wabash Valley, and to present the claims of the effort to the friends of education at home, and Edmund O. Hovey to solicit aid to the East. The object of the l atter agency was two-fold, viz., to secure sufficient funds to erect a college edifice, and, with the aid of judicious ad- visors, obtain a President of the College.
