SU BI C BAY MANILA PIIILIPPINI' I PHILIPPINES Many sailors ventured out beyond the main gates to explore and were hoping to find many luxuries that they could keep for souvenirs. After crossing the Santa Rita River Bridge Qas it is less commonly knownj, you are treated to a variety of colors and sounds. Banners fly everywhere greeting you to their country and inviting to buy something . The men, women, and even the children would barrage you with hats, sunglasses, and a vast number of other items to buy. The bars and nightclubs cater every musical interest, from country to rock n' roll. You could actually sit in a bar and enjoy yourself without any hassles, but you did have to be aware of a hand pounding on your leg and a whisper, buy me a drink . The outskirts of Olongapo City was a get away, we were able to see the beautiful country-side that the Philippines has to offer. It is truly a wonder- ful countryg full of beautiful sights, wonderful people and a proud past.

Thailand Thailand!!! This word conjures up images of lazy afternoons on the sunswept beaches, swimming in the warm water off the gulf of Thailand and taking part in the action packed nightlife of Pattaya Beach. Thailand is high on the list of the most memorable ports that the Wabash had the opportunity to visit. This resort island offers a unique liberty experience to sailors and vacation- ers alike. When liberty call' was heard over the 1 mc., many sailors stormed off the brow onto the sandy beach to be met by a huge carnival-like atmo- sphere. Pattaya Beach has a host of restaurants, open bars, and various stores selling everything from diving equipment to gold baht. The nightclubs offer exotic entertainment including a fast and furious sport known as kick- boxing and many other eye-catching shows which made Thailand an unforgettable port for all. The five days we visited was not nearly enough to explore the interesting country life Thailand has offer. Many of us though had the opportunity to take in some of the tours available to Bangkok and the River Kwai. To many, Thailand was the port that made WEST PAC 90' worth every hour spent out at sea.
