'S . rsqg, i il :Ni . ir A Wsilqem Engineering QB,M,E,R 4250 Boiler Technician Electrician's Hull Maintenance QBTD Mate CEM, Technician QHTJ The Engineering Department consists of B, M, E, and R divisions. B Division is manned soley by the BT's. A BT legend says, when Ciod said, Let there be light, the BT's came in on the main. Boiler Technicians CBTJ operate and perform organizational and intermediate maintenance on marine boilers, pumps, forced draft blowers and heat exchanges, perform tests, transfers and inventory of fuels and water, and maintain records and reports. M Division has two ratings: the MM CMachinist Matei. The MM's operate, maintain and repair ship propulsion machinery and auxilary equipment and outside machinery such as steering engine, windlasses and hoisting machinery, and elevators, food preparation equipment, transfer and inventory lubricating oils, maintain records and reports, and may perform duties in the generation and stowage of industrial gases. On WABASH the MM's man A Gang which is the Auxilary Division working with refrigeration, air condition system, and heating equipment. LC tLiquid Cargoi also is manned by the MM's. LC is responsi- ble for pumping fuel to other ships and taking on fuel plus maintaining the right levels of fuel in our tanks. MM's even find their way into Rase Division of Deck Department. The MR's tMachinery Repairmeni perform intermediate maintenance on assigned equipment and in support of other ships, requiring the skillful use lathes, milling machines, boring mills, grinders, power hacksaws, drill presses, and other machine tools, portable machinery, and hand tools and measuring instruments found in a machine shop. E Division consist of personnel in both the IC and EM ratings. Internal Communications Electricians UCI operate and maintain interior communications systems including voice interior communications, alarms, ship's entertainment system, gyrocompass, and plotting, and stand watch on related equipment. The Electrician's Mate CEMD stands watch on generators, switchboards, control equipment, and electrical equipment, operate and maintain power and lighting circuits, electrical fixtures, film projections, motors, generators, voltage and frequency regulators, controllers, distribution switchboards, and other electrical equipment, test for short circuits, ground or other casualities, and rebuild electrical equipment, including solid state circuitry elements, in an electrical shop. It should be noted also that some EM's work in the Rase Division. The HT's work in R Division. The Hull Maintenance Technicians lHTi plan, supervise, and perform tasks necessary for fabrication, installation, and repair of all types of shipboard structures, plumbing, and piping systems, qualify in the techniques, skills used in damage control and fire fighting Nuclear, biological, and Chemical defense, and damage control duties, supervise and perform tasks in procurement and issurance of supplies and repair parts, instruct personnel and enforce safety and security precautions, prepare records and reports. en 'Q' Interior Communications Machinist's Mate Machinery Electrician UCD QMMD Flepalfmafi llVlRl
