The first of these is to test himself as an indivdual and a member of a team in accomplishing missions under strenuous operating con- ditions. There is no doubt that we in WABASH, individually and collectively, were most successful in that endeavor as a few statistics will readily indicate: MILES STEAMED 35,000 REPLENISHMENTS 100 FUEL TRANSFERRED 17 MILLION GALLONS AMMUNITION TRANSFERRED 1560 SHORT TONS PROVISIONS TRANSFERRED 280 SHORT TONS MAIL DELIVERED 5 SHORT TONS 'Mm TIME AT SEA 65010 Each of those figures represents long, arduous hours on the part of every man and the fact that every commit- ment was met, including several of a short fuze nature, proves that we operated as an integrated and effec- tive team. I am, and you should be, most proud of our accomplishments in WESTPAC. The second aspect of a WESTPAC is that of visiting new ports and meeting new peopleS. A9850 I fee' we were highly successful. Ports ranged from the very best to the not so good, but each of them gave us the OP' portunity to visit for revisitl and see places of different cultures and topography. They provided us with the op- portunity to broaden our horizons and to have a better understanding of the world we live in. l am certain that we will long remember Subic, Pusan, Keelung, Sasebo and Yokosuka. And who could ever for99f Guam' V I know this cruise book will not cover nor portray each event in minute detail, nor is it intended to.
