Considered in the selection were the extra-curricular activities he participates in. Mr. Bohart teaches Geometry and Algebra in school and bowling outside. He also serves as the sponsor of the National Honor Society. At the football games dur- ing the season he can be heard as "the voice of the Starletsl' during halftime. Because of humor and his interest in students and their problems, this memory book is dedicated to him. 1 I s A ,:1. ,:1., . The program consisted of a variety of acts with seniors performing. The foreign exchange students sang an old folk song together. "Louie" l..aQuey and his "Bud Boys" also did a number. The Mountain Valley Girls sang a countryfwestern song. Rhonda Reid and Cindy Ewell did a comedy-song act. The Hilltop Mountain Boys did another countryfwestern tune. The program consisted of a few added attractions and proved to be a huge success, perhaps leading to a new tradition. f-.. ,kv X ' x Ulm QW? 5 N A 2 ' f N ff X l w , in . .,,, , V, , . mag, nw' 'W fi? ,r.. , .V Z imma as can W H 9 bw! m. The tour, accord- ing to a teacher spokesman, was an attempt to familiarize teachers with the environments of their students. The first tour, conducted by student advi- sors Mr. J. A. Sheets and Mrs. ,lohnie Ming, encompassed the South Dallas area. After teachers had boarded buses the fol- lowing Friday, they were conducted through the Pleasant Grove area. Col. Louis D. Wittkower, Jr. Cdl. Colonel Robert Vincent SFC Leroy Heckman Cdt. Sgt. Major Londale Johnson This year has been a very good one for the Corps. It is the first year we have had transfer students from Lincoln and Madison High Schools. The Drill Team participated in the North Zone Drill and Rifle Meet and also Field Day. The Rifle Team also had a good year participating in the North Zone Rifle Meet, the City Gallery, the Sth Army I and I match, Trinity Outdoor Rifle Meet, Arlington Rifle Meet-, and Field Day. At Federal Inspection we did exceptionally well, and the only thing that kept us from getting our honor star back was the size of the Corps. 7 CDT. 2nd!LT. Thomas Sneed S-1 CDT. MAJ. Suppos- edly, at the beginning of the year, we were to have a change of 'Qno dress codef, This change, however, was very short in duration and very limited. At the beginning of this year we had another change, also. Two races and two cultures joined to live and learn together. And who could ever forget the hassle of the air conditioning work and painting? Within every one of us there were also changes, some small - some large. Changes, we must realize, are essential for all of us. Without changes, our world would become stag- nant and meaningless. Therefore, we must accept some of the changes we experience - whether they be good or bad or just changes - for our lives to become beneficial. And should any one of us come to a point in life in which a change cannot be under- stood or accepted, remember these words: 'eGod, grant me the serenity to accept the things I cannot change, courage to change the things I can, and the wisdom to know the differencef' 1972 TORCH EDITOR SYDNEY SMITH 4 Three long years are over for another 657 seniors, ending with both sad and happy moments. This year has brought an awareness I had never quite fully realizedlbefore. I take no stock in popularity or "status,' as it is termed, though it may seem I do. If I am in that privileged group known to be more popular than the rest of the students, it is by accident. When I go to college, I hope never to get back into that mess. It's just not worth it. In school, so much depends on who you are and how popular you are. What kind of person you are doesnit count anymore. I can only speak for myself, but my senior year has been full of both satisfaction and disappointment. Due to integra- tion, I have come to understand more fully racial problems and how to deal with them. We had no riots or inter-racial disputes at Samuell this year, and I hope the same for years to come. I have enjoyed working on musicals, plays, and trying to help the school when called upon. I have also been in quite a number of organizations during my three years at Samuell. Some have been very enjoyable, others not so enjoyable, probably because I made it that way for myself. In all truthfulness, I must say, if I had it to do all over again, the list would be cut drastically. This would not be due to apathy on my part, it would be because I did not allow myself to become fully spiritually involved. Because of this, I find myself lacking in both spiritual powers and gifts. I was too involved in school to realize that I was hurting my relationship with God. This, I regret, for they can never equal the things the Lord can give you, if you will let Him. I have yet to find or decide my mission in life. Whether it be missionary or artist, I do not know. I only hope the Lord will lead me along the right path, and I believe He will. I am thankful for those who have tried to help prepare me face the world and the future. I am especially thankful for my parents who gave me all my educational opportunities. There is no way to repay the kindness, love, and understand- ing they have given me. I have no words of farewell from the wise or learned, only a poem from the writing of Wilferd A. Peterson. The Art of Being Yourself Champion the right to be yourself, dare to be different and to set your own pattern, live your own life and follow your own star. Make the most of yourself by fanning the tiny spark of possibility within you into the flame of achievement. Create the kind of self you will be happy to live with all your life. I do not know what the future holds for me or anyone else. I only know that I will continue to support America in all her endeavors, and continue to carry on the Word of Jesus Christ, our Lord. I believe in the divine right of freedom and both stand for this institution. , There is one way to happiness in life and after life, and that is Jesus.
