The Bicentennial, our senior year, or the year we were first in district. Maybe it was the year we met that special someone, or realized our independence was as important as breathing. Maybe it was the year that we grew up. Better yet, maybe it was the year that we, in fact, all America began to see that it was not silly to get a lump in your throat during the "Star-Spangled Banner." There was no longer any need to choke it down. Sud- denly America, with all its faults, was swelling with pa- triotic pride. This is the dictionary version of a "team", and we at Boswell have another definition. It can be found in our own "dynamic duo" of Miss Kathleen Ott and Mr. David Moerbe. Like "Me and My Shadow", they can be found at many activities involving students and especially student government. Together they have put together an efficient Student Council, with tears and alot of hard work. With a quick laugh and unfailing wit, Miss Ott andMr. Moerbe are tmsted friends as well as respected teachers. They are proof that Al- gebra and World Geography can be interesting! Spirit is a term often used and thrown around. With these two people, it's a way of living. For all their spirit, hard work and alot of old-fashioned love, we wish to make them a special part of this year's celebration. Opening l I ' 1 I ,559 '53 " I. 3 . After a tough defensive battle the Pioneers took a 7-6 victory. their first close one and a foreshadowing of many more to come. The Pioneers continued to exhibit their winning style as they went through the pre-district games undefeated. Working hard during their late afternoon work-outs the team prepared for district. The first district game was a do-or-die match-up as the Pioneers sought revenge against defending district cham- pions Grapevine. Defense was the key factor the Pio- neers held on to take a 14-12 victory in a tense and ex- citing game. A week later the odds were against Boswell as they went up against next year's 4-A ranked team Bur- leson. The game was deadlocked for three quarters until the Pioneers pulled ahead by six and. after a desperate heart-stopping scoring attempt by Burleson, clung to their narrowing margin for a 6-0 win. Looking for a good solid victory for a Homecoming crowd. the Pioneers hosted the Brewer Bears. Sitting on top of District 3A-5 as the only undefeated team. the Pioneers edged the Bulldogs 10-8 to go on to win number nine. Even though undefeated, the title was still on the line as the Pioneers faced number two ranked Mansfield in a game which would decide the championship. The game was close through the first half with the Pioneers going to the locker room at the half with a narrow lead. But the Blue team proved their right to be number one as they wore out the Tigers in the second half. rolling up a 28-6 score. causing pandemonium in Pioneer Stadium. Kirk Watson has truly been involved during his four years of school. He has been a varsity debater for four years, placing second in state competition his junior year and winning the contest his senior year. Kirk has played leading roles in most of Boswell's productions, at- tending state one-act play contests as a sophomore and senior. His participation and interest helped to earn him the honor of outstanding senior Thespian. The various clubs Kirk has par- ticipated in include FTA, JETS, Spanish Club and National Honor Society. He also was active in student council, serving as president his senior year. As a fresh- man and a sophomore Kirk played full- back for the football team and pole vaulted during the spring. Kirk plans to attend Baylor University in the fall majoring in pre-law. Kirk has been awarded a debate scholarship by Baylor to help him persue his college education. Freshmen IS9 l90 Closing 'Wu A fl? 1s.,- i A Closing -uf Once the celebration has ended, there is little left to say. No words or pictures can ever recapture the excitement of the mo- ment, the thrill or the sadness. Memories become distorted with time, changing to what one wants to remember, not neces- sarily what really was. In all thoughts of past youth and happi- ness there is a certain feeling of affection. To leave behind what one has loved-or learned to love-can be a traumatic ex- perience. To suddenly not know what tomorrow brings can make a loss of security seem more profound. To love the un- known future is an accomplishment .... and life itself becomes a celebration. l 5 S l 0 . ,..,-, a is ' f E f Q W. z Wai al , A 1 X Y Z y.',3t . 1 "' u ' f . ,W xx. .P .R 84:2 ,M Q 5. xi 'gm 1 .. 1 55' , .,. ,N ,w.,x..m'-1vfg,y . x ,5 -7.2.1 13: .:v r- fff " 05:2-2g 'fm:7" '.
