of formulas and tests
of departmental meetings
of a smile and a wink
of an 8:50 arrival at school
of buying a basketball ticket
of taking players to a game
of hearing a whistled tune
of help sessions after school
of yet something more
to give knowledge to a student
let him taste it and know it
and make it his own
to be a catalyst of minds
for twenty years
this is dedication
so now we dedicate a book
an impression of a year
yet something more . . .
for to be given knowledge
to be able to taste it and know it
and make it our own
this is the beginning
of wisdom and greatness
this chance
this beginning given to us

"All the world's a stage, And all the men and women merely players, They have their exits and their entrances,
And one man in his time plays many parts."
William Shakespeare, the greatest dramatist ever known, composed the quote above. To thousands of people he
has brought inspiration and true meaning to life through the stage. A
Day by day the students walk through their roles and endless rehearsals of comedy and drama. The faculty have
the supporting roles and act as stage hands contributing to the final productipn.
Each step, in life is another scene, another bit to play, a new experiencef' all combined as a personal trial. People
retain the knowledge that can only come from past acts which involve personal suffering and enjoyment, and the ob-
servation of others. This knowledgeis the main basis for life in future years as the students themselves become support-
ing actors for their children. V
There are as many scripts as there are people, each shapes his own. The roles vary from leaders to followers, every
personhaving his place among them. Today's teenagers are in the midst of try-outs to ascertain the role for which they
are best suited.
As the curtain closes on this act of our lives, we are sure it will rise many times again, for those embarking on further
education and careers. A "

Frank W. Cox
The year, 1968, 'marks the end of a long and successful era as Su-
perintendent of schools for Mr. Frank W. Cox. His sincere dedication has
created a school system in which we are all proud to serve. Though Mr.
Cox leaves our system, his contributions to education in Virginia Beach

The S eahawk Cage Team once again enjoyed a
winning season. Despite the fact that the Seahawks were
pitted against teams with older and more experienced
boys, they gained victories over Mapp jr. High by 24 and
23 points respectively, over Bayside by 28 and 3 points,
over Kimpsville by 18 and 20 points and over Norfolk
Academy by 10 points,
Under the experienced leadership of Coach Braye,
the Seahawk team improved as the season progressed
with W. Butts, R. jones, C. McGill, B. Palmer, T.
Miles, and B. Killen emerging as outstanding players.
Many long afternoons of practice proved rewarding when
the Seahawks continually displayed themselves as a team
of which we all could be proud.
The team was supported in its efforts by the cheer-
leaders, under the direction of Miss Lockridge, and by
Mr. Kalichman. At the conclusion of the season, the
Seahawks were honored by their selection to participate
in the Norfolk Catholic Junior High Invitational Tourna-
ment. To all those contributing to the success of the
1967-8 team, Coach Braye, in his first year as basket-
ball coach at VBJHS, would like to extend a personal
thanks. The Annual Staff offers its congratulations to the
team and to Coach Braye for a job well done.

The Student Co-operative Association, under the direction of Mrs. Smith, is responsible for promoting better
relations between the faculty and students. Members of the SCA are involved in many phases of school life such as
working in the refreshment stand at all games, conducting assemblies, sponsoring a canned food drive at Christmas,
and planning school dances. This year the SCA introduced identification cards for both students and faculty members.
The SCA is an integral and motivating force in the school.

The purpose of IQ Lighthouse is to keep the students informed of all school activities including sports events,
dances, and various projects within the school. Letters to the editor and editorial columns provide a place for the
opinions of the students, faculty, and administration to be made known. New faculty members are introduced to the
student body through articles which are based on interviews with the teachers. The members of the staff have com-
bined their efforts with those of their sponsors, Miss Starke and Miss Waller, to make this the best year yet for Ege-
Lighthouse.
The staff works to meet the deadline for the next edition.

During its second year, the Lookout
staff concentrated its efforts on creating a
new and better yearbook. Various new
aspects were added including a new cover
design, use of a theme, and the inclusion
of student art work. The staff was able to
make these improvements because of a
successful subscription and advertisement
drive. We of the annual staff would like to
thank Miss Swink and Mrs. Joynt who once
again 'took on the task of being our sponsors.

The Pep Club of Virginia Beach Junior High is primarily interested in good sportsmanship and the promotion of
school spirit. Members, sponsored by Miss Shesso, attend pep rallies and athletic games throughout the year. The Pep
Club, also, is involved in service projects such as bake sales and clothing collections for the indigent. This year the
