Our initial aet was to elect the following officers: Cordon Dailey and Alice Chinik, Co-Presidentsg Peter Farrell and Phyllis Harte, Co-Vice-Presidentsg Nicholas DiPiazza and Patricia Cronk, Co-Secretaries, Arthur Kirwin and Nancy Avakian, Co-Treasurersg and Charles Ryan and Bernadette Kelly, Co-Historians. Settled at last in our new influence, we cast an appraising eye at our Senior "ninth-ls," an arched eye-brow at the second-ya-ar co-patriots now struggling in our cast off duds. and pro- ceeded to vie with them for honors in all school activities. .auf -J- ' 1 .- iliilffiq T We 'f I ,H H GORDON DAILEY ALICE CHINIK gifs f 'TTY xl 2? gp 4 J ,-7 pf' RALPH MORONF r' , 'Wi nr 5 -1 5,1.,. f , - Y N X A ' fn' K? ,V Like our Junior friends, we also made our first act the matter of elections. After having weathered the furor of first-year work, we have come to look upon experience as a great teacher. English, Latin, French and Spanish that have added beauty and depth to our thinking. Mathematics has sharpened our reasoning powers, while Chemistry and Physics have introduced us to the world of the elements. National Problems, colored by Christian prin- ciples, have pointed out our moral responsibili- ties to society. Commercial Training has devel- oped precision and has prepared us for a place in the business world. The students' move was a protest against the extremes in evening dresses that border on the immodest and style trends that affront Christian decency. The Vincentian girls, challenge was a valiant assent to the Holy Father's insistence for a return to Christian standards, and a fearless affirmation of every good woman's conviction that modesty and modishness complement one another. The Most Reverend Edmund F. Gibbons, D.D., Bishop of Albany, commenting on the decision of the junior class at YJ., said: "The courage of these young women is admirable. This is the most effective action in many years against the increasing evil trend of immodest dress. If all our young people would join in such a forthright movement, and it is my earnest wish that they should, the forces that are attempting to deprive womanhood of its true beauty and charm would quickly be rooted."
